CDC: 80 percent of US coronavirus deaths are people 65 and older

Eighty percent of deaths associated with the coronavirus in the United States were in adults aged 65 and older, according to an analysis released Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). “The risk for serious disease and death in COVID-19 cases among persons in the United States increases with age,” the CDC said. “Social distancing is recommended for all ages to slow the spread of the virus, protect the health care system, and help protect vulnerable older adults.”

The analysis looked at 44 cases from Feb. 12 through March 16 and found that 34 percent of deaths were reported among adults aged 85 and older. Forty-six percent of deaths were reported among those aged 65 to 84. Adults between the ages of 20 and 64 made up 20 percent of the deaths.

Public health officials and experts have warned for weeks that the elderly are at the highest risk of dying from the coronavirus. The analysis lined up with data released by China, which showed 80 percent of deaths there were in adults aged 60 and older.

“I’ll take door #2 if it’s more than a mom & pop medical facility.”

It’s a big one.

That’s a strong possibility. I think cutting retirement costs is a strong contender.

Because of the total deaths that will occur with the virus, 20 percent of them will be the 20 to 65 crowd. If a 100,000 folks were to end up dying with this disease, 20,000 would be 20 to 64 year olds. If it were the fabled million dreamed of by some of those lib a-holes, then 200,000 younger folks would perish. So yeah they should worry.

Do not make a wrong corollary here - simply because you ARE over 65, is not an automatic death sentence if you do acquire the COVID-19 virus, also known as the WuFlu. There is a subset within the over-65 group, that also has OTHER medical problems, that make the affliction much worse than it would otherwise be. But for those over 65 who are in otherwise good health, and take normal precautions if there is an onset of elevated temperature, with or without a sore throat, and a deep bronchial cough, the disease will run a course normal for other coronavirus infections, most notably the “common cold”.

Revisit, why didn’t the swine flu pandemic that killed 14000 Americans make it to the media or crash the stock market? The fish is stinkin

Or just perhaps the Wash nursing home skewed the numbers?
The young percentage is significantly higher without those deaths.

I am a lousy cook and my wife hates cooking as well, so pretty much eating anything convenient.

Based on my 23 years personal experience, I am now 100% certain regular exercise is by far the best strategy to stay healthy. It can overcome poor diet as well. But on caveat, I do not smoke and stay away from booze as much as possible.

We check off a few boxes here.. I’ve been lying low last few days..

Wifey and gang has been doing as much of a ‘normal’ schedule, walk, eat, jabber, and they’re all senior plus a click or two, fingers crossed.

Oh vell. Life sucks (No, not really, it could be a lot worse.) sometimes.

Hey it most likely won't kill millennials but it will leave them with reduced lung capacity, damaged hearts and non functioning testicles - which they don't need or use anyway.
