...(2019-nCoV) in vitro (re-post)
Pharma company Bayer will soon make a large donation to the U.S. government of a drug that has shown some promise in helping patients suffering from the novel coronavirus, according to a senior Health and Human Services official and another source with direct knowledge.
Why it matters: It doesn't hurt to have a potential treatment on hand, but we're still a very long way from having an approved, clinically tested treatment for the coronavirus.
The big picture: Early evidence suggests that chloroquine an inexpensive anti-malarial drug may work just as well, if not even better, than remdesivir, a drug owned by Gilead, which is undergoing clinical trials for treatment of the coronavirus.
A study (published in Nature) found that "remdesivir and chloroquine are highly effective in the control of 2019-nCoV infection in vitro."
"Chloroquine shouldnt be left out of the discussion of candidate COVID-19 therapies and may actually be leading the pack," Raymond James (wrote in a research note) earlier this month.

One can hope... wouldn’t that wonderful?
“I think some would differ with you on that point. There are those who forego some cancer treatments due to side effects, for example.”
I’m sure there are. Perhaps these people see nothing ahead for themselves even if they are cured.

I can hear the anger and depression in your post, I was there yesterday what is happening to this republic it infuriating!!!}
Yeah, ya gotta figure if you the potential trade off is one you can handle!
This thing is a flu and mutates too quickly.
We develop vaccines for different flu strains all the time. Why should this be any different?
We are looking at an upward tick in hospitalizations and then a quick fall off like China.
And the reason why China had a quick fall off was because they acted quickly and adopted the pandemic prevention measures that you describe as "statist crap". The ChiComs did not shut down Wuhan for Schiffs and giggles. They knew their economy would take a hit if they closed down the country. They did it anyway. That tells me that this actually is serious. Not because everyone is going to die from it but because if left unchecked more people will require hospitalization than we have beds available.
Ninety percent of our antibiotics are made in China....
Media probably owns stock in the companies making the soon to be mandated vaccine(s).
Why give news about drugs that work when only a few people will ever need them. You can mandate a vaccine for 350M people and your profit is indemnified.
Thanks for sharing some positive news... Our country has a way of overcoming adversity and we’ll overcome this little horror too.
You are absolutely correct it is DAMN TIME to grow the hell up!!!
The Antibiotic of the Future
Antibiotic-resistant germs are now considered epidemic in the United States, accounting for a growing number of serious infectious disorders. While most antibiotics disinfect about a half dozen or so germs, silver has been reported to disinfect hundreds. Most importantly, unlike conventional antibiotics, germs cannot build a resistance to the action of silver. A properly prepared colloid of silver is a special liquid preparation of this trace mineral that is extremely safe to use, even with children and pets, without many of the negative side effects of prescription antibiotics.
OMG I went through the HonG Kong flu it was horrible, however I will gladly go through the virus than the side effects of this drug!!

I think I found what my ex-wife was on all the time we were married then!
Even better. President Trump will waive the FDA rules that make it impossible for regular doctors to prescribe what the FDA calls “experimental” treatment. So the FDA will not be a gate shutter for the thousands of doctors who would prescribe off-patent drugs, nutrients, and a person’s own stem cells to treat and avoid disease. It’s extremely good news. President Trump has wanted to this from 3 years ago, and now has the medical cover to do it.
