Italy's coronavirus outbreak may be so devastating because it has such an old population and the elderly come into frequent contact with the young. A study by the University of Oxford has suggested that multiple generations living under the same roofs 'accelerated' the spread of the virus in rural Italy.
More than 31,000 people have been diagnosed with the virus in the crisis-hit country and at least 2,503 people have died a death rate of almost one in 12. The country has the world's second oldest population after Japan 22 per cent of people are over 65 and people in that group are known to be more likely to die if infected.
But it could be the movements of young people which triggered the disaster. It's common for young adults in rural areas to live with their parents and grandparents but to commute into cities, such as Milan, to work and socialize. They may have been picking up the virus while travelling and brought it home without realising they were ill, the Oxford researchers said.
Another study published this week suggested that 86 per cent of patients may have no idea they're ill in the early stages of a country's epidemic, raising the risk of this deadly spread going unnoticed.

And the median age the middle of the age range is 46.5 years old, according to the CIA the fifth highest in the world. For comparison, the UK's median age ranks 50th is 40.6 (18 per cent aged over 65) and the US's is 38.5 (17 per cent over 65).
The older someone is, the more deadly catching the coronavirus can be. Age is known to be one of the biggest risk factors because the immune system and lungs are naturally weaker so the body is less able to fend off pneumonia, which the virus causes in severe cases.
Older people are also more likely to have the types of long-term illnesses which raise the risk of coronavirus becoming fatal, such as diabetes or heart disease. Research has found that people aged 80 or over have a 14.8 per cent risk (one in seven) of dying if they develop COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.
How ironic that close family life appears to have boosted the advancement of this virus in Italy. Quite sad really.
And it is obviously so much safer for them to be packed away in assisted living and nursing homes, like here!
Well, finally a solution to social security insolvency.
I know. Guessing their elderly living in nursing homes or assisted living get a lot more visitors too.
Well we have little to fear on that score here in America where the elderly have been shunned for decades and the liberals want to go even further by euthanizing what they see as a waste of resources.
In that case, we elderly Americans don’t have to worry about this virus at all.
This is probably the biggest reason why they shut down the casinos.
“How ironic that close family life appears to have boosted the advancement of this virus in Italy.”
No good deed goes unpunished.
The anti-family media is trying to cover up the fact that northern Italy is heavily populated with Chinese who moved in to Italys textile industry. So don’t blame Italian gradparents for this plague.
EXCERPT
There are 2,7 million elderly persons in Italy who are not capable of taking care of themselves in their daily life. This population needs health and social care services. Only 28% of this elderly population is in charge by the Italian public social and health care service. 200 000 in the residential care and 600 000 using home care services. An what about the rest 1,9 million elderly persons?
Traditionally the families took care of the elderly, but today the reality is quite different. Especially in the North usually both parents work and elderly care needs to get organized differently. The informal caregivers, so called badanti, are one way to cover the lack of services.
So much for the extended family.
The operative word is "may be" a factor. People have to stop this. Italy is no different than anywhere else. The reason that it spread so quickly was because they did NOT take it seriously when it first appeared. It was a country of "it's just the flu".
I don’t see in this article that (I saw yesterday on FR) there are 400,000 to 500,000 Wuhan Chinese in northern Italy, who continued to fly back and forth, after POTUS put on the travel ban here.
Is it just being conveniently overlooked? Or was it a conspiracy theory?
Hey....Grandma maka da sauce. Grandpa make da spaget. Everyone manges.
Could it also be that their health care system is Cuba light?
I agree. The Chinese have conveniently disappeared from the reasons the virus spread so quickly in Italy.
Not after this.

Yup. The Chinese are interfering with the truth.
Let's get an SC to investigate how that's happening.
