The long term effects of this virus are NOT like the flu.

What Cracker Jack box did you get your medical degree from?

I even heard the tail end of a Brian Kilmeade radio show where they were saying “So, yes, that is an idea suggested, to allow children and under age 60 to go everywhere and save the economy but totally quarantine anyone over 60. Because only old people get the virus and die.”

Fools. Just stay the heck home unless you need INDIVIDUAL exercise (NOT IN A GYM) or need groceries, shoes and what not. It's not worth it do to business as usual, no matter where you live.

Ever have the flu? Could you breathe afterwards.

Many lose 20-40% of their lung capacity after this.

Can you read, or do you just come here to drop turds and run away. They have been journal articles about this since the beginning of January.

But, it’s just the flu. Rush told me so.

MHO, ANYTHING you inhale into your lungs can damage your lungs TO SOME DEGREE.

Oxygen?

“ So right now take this with a grain of salt. ”

Correct. We know people are often not forthcoming about contributing factors when they’re in the ER. Actual young people -not the “several” 30 to 50 presented here- have denied vaping when it was the cause of their respiratory issues.

What jumps out at me is the “blank medical records”. Does “blank” mean clear, or it could be an absence of medical history. I’m betting on the later.

Perhaps of interest.

I have not found any reference that pulmonary fibrosis heals — generally worsens over time. Lung transplant is the only real “cure”.

“Many lose 20-40% of their lung capacity after this.”

Hyperbole. The same thing happens with pneumonia. The studies that mention your stat. say it’s a near-term effect and they don’t know if it is a long-term effect. The lungs will likely heal over time just like with pneumonia. Corona virus causes pneumonia you know.

Yeah I wondered about the term blank as well. I agree the latter sounds like a real possibility.

You obviously don’t understand what causes the cracked glass syndrome.

But yeah...your gramma had pneumonia from the flu. Which is an entirely different virus.

Try reading something other than the comics. I know Rush isn’t up on this. So maybe you can tell him too.

Wife has IPF. Her dad died back in 1984 of IPF. She is on hospice care, and any flu or corona virus will take her.

Flu should take me out also since I have IPF- 3 strokes_- diabetes-you name it.

I hope your wife is on Esbreit or another IPF drug, to help her hang on.

Tell her I hope she will keep on going, and not give up. -Tom

Yes one can get a feel for these things when a doc sees them over a number of years but even damaged lungs can recoup some extra capacity over time (with breathing exercises and mild physical exercise) as long as the owner doesn’t do anything stupid to further cause them harm. I was going to add something like your comment to my posting but I decided to post a shorter more general rule that we see generally verified in the medical profession in which I work(not as a doc personally but an ICU RN and in the practice for 34 years).

Point goes to you!

Ummmm, want to try again? 8>)

When you add up 525 (recovered) + 7 (deceased) = 532 It could never be 100% due to the mere fact that 7 have died.

73.7 (Recovered) + 25.3 (still infected) + 1 (deceased) = 100%

The 180 that have not recovered is of concern. I can only guess that they were very severe cases. Hopefully they will all finally recover. If they all do not recover then the deceased rate jumps to 26.3%. That would not be good.

Yes, mister “It Could be Approaching the Magnitude of the Spanish Flu”, I saw your post.

The LOW estimate, that I saw, of the fatalities from the Spanish Flu of 1918 -1920 was 17.4 million deaths. Other estimates were SUBSTANTIALLY higher than that. This low 17.4 million death estimate WAS almost 1% of the world’s 1918 population of about 1.8 billion people.

1% of today’s world population of 7.7 billion would be 77 million worldwide deaths from this Coronavirus. That WILL NOT HAPPEN and I strongly suspect you never thought it would (I reviewed your posting history and you definitely are not stupid unlike some of our other alarmists).

I have believed, and continue to believe, that Trump has been doing a commendable job of managing this crisis. Some other FReepers (mostly of our the panicked/stampeded subset of our members) have frequently criticized him whether deserved or not.

THE ironic thing is that a number of American deaths (from things such as the flu and other infections) that would have occurred in the absence of this Coronavirus outbreak will now not occur because of the widespread adoption of healthier behaviors such as PROPER hand washing and avoidance of sick individuals. Who knows, perhaps the number of these avoided deaths will exceed the number of American deaths from this Novel Coronavirus.

Perhaps in your current jihad you could try to frighten people into better health behavior such as smoking/vaping cessation. That would be a good thing!
