Suddenly, the left is complaining that Trump isn’t dictatorial enough
NY Post ^ | March 16 2020 | Rich Lowry

What happens when the supposed dictator won’t dictate?

This is the conundrum confronted by the harshest critics of President Trump, who have gone from warning he is a budding despot to complaining he hasn’t done enough to impose his will during the coronavirus crisis.

They can’t believe that he didn’t urge sports leagues to cancel their seasons, call for school systems to close or tell bars and restaurants to shutter before this wave of closures began.

Story time. I was talking to a lefty fried who was happy the Dem gov ordered schools, resturnats, etc. closed and how awful Trump was at handling this.

I asked him point blank, should Trump order all these things closed if it seems to be such a good idea. They were upset at that suggestion.

Indeed the headline is accurate.

But the real problem lies in the alphabet soup of turf - the CDC, the HHS, the FDA etc etc.

How is it that we spend tens of billions of dollars every year to HHS and CDC, and not one person in charge ever made the decision to fill a couple of warehouses with latex gloves, masks, medications, modular quarantine pop-up tents and the like? Instead, they squandered the money analyzing how shrimp react to a treadmill or how teenage sexual dysphoria might reflect on weight gain or loss?

These federal agencies are filled with technocrats and bureaucrats who are career employees. They are supposed to do their jobs regardless of which person occupies the Oval Office. But it seems to me they did not do their jobs at all, they did not prepare, they did not develop contingency plans, they did not equip for various contingencies. They must be held accountable for this when we’re on the other side.

After the H1N1 Swine Flu of 2009, out of fear of “not doing something”, they created a whole host of counter-productive regulations. Just so they can say they did something. But it was thoughtless. They stripped the power of the states from being able to run their own epidemiological labs. They mandated the types of equipment that must be used, where they can be used, what re-agent types to use, and what disease markers to look for. As a result, state tests were invalid, and the private sector which is more than well equipped to test for the disease using various markers and reagents were using much more novel, advanced and modern techniques that did not conform with the FDA regs. So, instead of letting the market open wide with testing facilities, they actually made it extremely difficult to run tests. The public and private sector is and has been ready to test for COVID19, but the FDA wouldn’t allow them because they were not using the pre-approved tools and equipment.

It is hard to imagine that such a thing wasn’t deliberately nefarious - but most likely these were simple not very bright people who wanted to look like they were “doing something” when all they really did was make it impossible to do anything at all.

Government bureaucrats at their best. Instead of spend time on needed research and protocols, they spent time on useless pet projects. They should have spent their time on research of these issues, supplies needed, etc.

The media meme has always been to frame whatever he does negatively. It doesn’t matter what he does, it’s always framed negatively.

“How is it that we spend tens of billions of dollars every year to HHS and CDC, and not one person in charge ever made the decision to fill a couple of warehouses with latex gloves, masks, medications, modular quarantine pop-up tents and the like?”

I distinctly recall people right here on this site, for years, freaking out over FEMA and other government organs prepping for the mass extermination of antigovernment freedom loving Americans in a mass gun grab to pave the way for the NWO.

Can’t win, I guess.

I doubt anybody game planned for China to drop a bioweapon in their own main transportation hub and not tell the rest of the world what they were up to. But most of the stuff you mentioned is well stocked. Not all, but most.

It doesn’t matter what he does, it’s always framed negatively.

Always and they will flip the narrative 180 degrees from the morning report to the evening report without batting an eye. But the essence is always "Trump's fault."

Yeah well, just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get you!

I am a 22 year member of this site, seen many opinions, sometimes they seem rash or reactionary. Also of course plenty of very astute posts with insight and knowledge and experience. Like many here I lean towards interpretation of the Bill of Rights that defers to the individual. I hate to see it abused.

But FEMA after Katrina was a sick joke. 4 days to deliver water to the Houston Astrdome, where the government told people to flee. They did not do their jobs. And the same holds true today. I think this reaction is a wild exaggeration based on publicly available information. But even if it’s as bad as they predict, we still cannot quarantine travelers or test the population. And a good reliable test will select tens of thousand of random people to learn the true scope of contagion. Maybe it’s worse maybe it’s not so bad but without tens of thousands of random tests we won’t know the current rate of prevalence so we won’t be able to tell if it’s getting better or worse.

Quarantine of travelers would not be that hard to do. Set up primary, secondary and tertiary quarantine zones at designated airports. Direct all incoming travel to one of these airports. Take people’s temperature, heart rate and blood pressure. If they pass, they enter with a warning to self quarantine and/or call a doctor if they develop symptoms. If they fail the first test, they go to secondary quarantine for more questioning. Why do you have a fever, hypertension, shortness of breath etc. If there is a legit reason, they go with the same warning. If they fail, they go to 3rd quarantine zone. All this without testing. If we had good testing we could hold all arrivals for test results. It’s not that difficult to implement. But nobody saw that anything like this was implemented. And the stupid FDA regs on testing made it even more complicated to combat.

Of course nobody planned on the Chinese trying to infect their own population, which is why I think it was some kind of industrial accident; or, sabotage. I really don’t think it came from inter-species relations (eating a dog, touching bat poop etc). I think it leaked from the lab in high concentrations and spread too quickly to contain. The fact that Chinese military send their #1 biowarfare expert and several platoons to occupy at least one of the Wuhan biolabs tells us a lot. Maybe they are being cautious... or maybe they found the culprit.

Beat me to it! I was just going to post about this.

Slimy dog face lying Liberals ALWAYS tell the mindless that Trump wants to be King. Instead he allows folks at the State and Local level to do what they think is best.
