Governments love crises because when the people are fearful they are more willing to give up freedoms for promises that the government will take care of them. After 9/11, for example, Americans accepted the near-total destruction of their civil liberties in the PATRIOT Act’s hollow promises of security.
It is ironic to see the same Democrats who tried to impeach President Trump last month for abuse of power demanding that the Administration grab more power and authority in the name of fighting a virus that thus far has killed less than 100 Americans.
Declaring a pandemic emergency on Friday, President Trump now claims the power to quarantine individuals suspected of being infected by the virus and, as Politico writes, “stop and seize any plane, train or automobile to stymie the spread of contagious disease.” He can even call out the military to cordon off a US city or state.
State and local authoritarians love panic as well. The mayor of Champaign, Illinois, signed an executive order declaring the power to ban the sale of guns and alcohol and cut off gas, water, or electricity to any citizen. The governor of Ohio just essentially closed his entire state.
The chief fearmonger of the Trump Administration is without a doubt Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health. Fauci is all over the media, serving up outright falsehoods to stir up even more panic. He testified to Congress that the death rate for the coronavirus is ten times that of the seasonal flu, a claim without any scientific basis.

further look at the 4% and see its not distributed evenly, but the elderly and ill/infirm are the vast majority of cases. like you’d expect with any disease, just like the flu as well.

I believe we'll bounce back in a few months but there is something wrong about Americans hiding in our homes. I think we could find a way to balance our daily lives with good public health practices.
I’ll bite. A month ago my wife was planning her annual Spring Vacation from school to see the grandchildren. I heard her on the phone telling my daughter what days we would travel and arrive. I told her cancel the trip. I told her by then no one will be traveling. How’s that?

The press is despicable. Everyone else, whether they think this is going to be a nightmare or whether they think it won’t, are trying to do the right thing. The MSM are acting like demons twisting everything and pitting people against each other.

I would just move on. If someone offends you in a true sense then take offense. Not everyone is right or wrong. Defend yourself say your peace. Sometimes it is just your opinion man and no one knows for certain what is going on.

initiallly I read that as “the victims of political correctness” and was immediately reminded of my children (now adults) explanation of how “zero tolerance” was implemented at school.
Trump is going to redistribute the wealth, if I were a corrupt 1%er I’d be worried.
Here’s another prediction: There will be enough people who modify their behavior the numbers of seriously will only stress our healthcare system to the point of breaking but only urban health centers will be over run. I predict Baltimore will be first. Here’s another, there will be enough people who refuse to take any precaution they will volunteer to go first. In two weeks there will be more doctors and nurses getting ill and they will be sicker than everyone else because the “size of the innocuous” was greater.
Would you like more? None of this is all that difficult. In two weeks when the deaths start really racking up the debate will be less “tensioned”. Globally the death rate now appears to be about a thousand a day. Doubling every four days do the math.
