An Illinois primary like no other: Low turnout, poll worker shortage expected amid coronavirus
The Chicago Tribune ^ | March 16, 2020 | Rick Pearson

Illinoisans readied for a primary Election Day like no other Tuesday, with fear of the spread of coronavirus raising concerns of low turnout and too few poll workers as government leaders exhorted healthy voters to do their part to move democracy forward at the ballot box.

With polls open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., the push to get people to vote came despite new federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines to avoid crowds of 50 people or more.

Chicago election officials stressed safety and encouraged voters to practice social distancing, even offering alternative less-crowded voting sites. But they acknowledged a “tsunami” of calls from poll workers opting not to show up at polling places and took the unusual step of urgently asking healthy people to show up and serve as judges.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker said he felt “good” about the decision to continue with Election Day. [Most read] Holed up in the US: Coronavirus shutdown threatens jobs »

“We have to have our elections continue, in my opinion. This is the right thing to do. Our democracy needs to go on. We need to elect leaders. If we canceled these elections, you know, when would you have an election?”

...but voting must proceed despite the absence of election judges...

Sounds like a feature, not a bug. Just makes it easier to come up with the desired totals before announcing the "election results".

Nobody is bringing up the judicial retention ballot they’re the reason why Chicago has so many shootings because of the slap on the wrist judgements

Those who live in Chicago may have already voted at their local public library. In the 3rd Congressional district looks like Lipinski will lose because of the remapping which had areas in adjacent wards to his 23rd which were strong supporters but had areas with hispanic last names that were assigned to Gutieriez’s district.

I always vote no on all them.

Expect one time I voted to retain a guy who goes to my mom’s church.

This will be a VERY interesting one to watch!

Courts closing too? In Missouri the Missouri Supreme Court has announced no in-person proceedings for Appellate and Circuit Courts including Family, Juvenile, Municpal, probate, etc. As of now until April 3.

The judicial retention ballot will be voted upon in November.

The primary nominations for judges will be on today’s ballot.

As of this morning, Tuesday, March 17 at 6:15 a.m., there is currently NO VOTING at Village Hall, and likely other Village of Barrington polling places, due to a lack of election judge volunteers reporting for duty. Unfortunately we do not have any further information for our residents as to where or how to vote at this time.

Cook County Elections Department “leases” space for elections; Village Hall is one of those spaces. We provide the building, but do not provide judges, nor do we have any authority to do so.

Before you head to your polling place today, please contact your election board for further information

Low turnout is Bernie’s only slim hope.

3 caucus states so far and he’s won them all. (yes I count Iowa for him)

From what I’ve been told there were no opposition party candidates on the judicial part of the Rat ballot which is why I brought that up.

Man Accused Of Raping 3-Year-Old At McDonalds Previously Arrested At Texas/Mexico Border
dfw.cbslocal.com ^ | February 28, 2020

Posted on 2/29/2020, 11:42:35 PM by lowbridge

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) says a man who prosecutors allege sexually assaulted a 3-year-old girl in the stall of a McDonald’s restroom located in Chicago’s North Riverside community 600 North Clark street should have been turned over to the agency last year.

Christopher Puente, 34, is charged with one count of predatory criminal sexual assault. Cook County prosecutors said he confessed to detectives that he’d placed the child on his lap while he was in a restroom stall, pulled off her pants, and covered her mouth when she started calling out “daddy daddy.”

The father had taken his two children to the restroom, taking his son into a stall while his daughter waited just outside in the restroom. According to prosecutors. Puente, who was in the next stall, lured the girl into his stall while her dad was preoccupied, pulled her into his lap, pulled down her pants and underwear, and sexually assaulted her.

In June 2019, ICE lodged an immigration detainer with the Chicago Police Department on Puente, who has several felony convictions and a prior removal, after he was arrested for theft.

“How many more victims must there be before lawmakers realize that sanctuary policies do not protect the innocent?” asked Robert Guadian, field office director of Chicago Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). “Puente should have been in ICE custody last year and removed to his home country. Instead, irresponsible lawmaking allowed him to walk free and prey on our most vulnerable.”

The voting dead have nothing to fear from the Corona Virus and will probably show up in record numbers by the end of today and re-nominate all of the Dems running for re-election.
