At least eight New York Times authors shared a deceptively edited quote Monday from President Donald Trumps recent call with state governors, creating the false impression that the president is denying federal support for ventilators that are needed in hospitals treating coronavirus patients.
In his message, the president recommended that states procure respirators and ventilators because it would be faster but added that the federal government will be backing you.
The Times journalists omitted the bulk of the presidents statement as they shared the story on social media. The misleading, partial quote was also boosted by a CNN correspondent and became the lead headline at the left-wing Huffington Post.
Despite growing online backlash to this misinformation, the journalists have yet to delete or retract their comments.
The eight journalists tweeted a link to a Times article published Monday that contains President Trumps full statement to state governors in which the president recommended that they shouldnt wait for the federal government to fill the growing demand for respirators needed to treat people with coronavirus.
Respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment try getting it yourselves, President Trump told the governors during the Monday conference call. We will be backing you, but try getting it yourselves. Point of sales, much better, much more direct if you can get it yourself.
But in the body of their posts, the Times journalists left out most of what the president said.
Times national correspondent Julie Bosman tweeted only the first third of the presidents statement, leaving out the part where he said the federal government will back the states.
Wow.

More spin than a ZZ Top guitar.
This is NOT the time to pull this crap! (Never was, really)
During a national emergency, such actions should have dire and immediate consequences.
It just goes to show that progressives can’t win on the merits. The have to resort to deception and down right lies. Their attacks on Trump are really attacks on us. They hate us.
These SOBs ought to be shutdown....for good.
The Propaganda Press knows no shame. Intentionally misquoting someone the Propaganda Press dislike is par for the course. Remember when NBC edited George Zimmermann’s conversation with a 911 operator to make him appear to be a racist?
Bty
I hate the MSM and the NYT in particular.
But hey, the Fake News can be totally trusted to report the actual facts of Coronavirus, with no conjecture and fear mongering! /sarc
Who reads the Times?

Not the first time, either, that they did.
Thanks tomkat.
Back in the Bush days, we called that being “Dowded.”
Wow! He made it clear that he gave them the authorization to order thru their own vendors if they feel it will be faster than ordering thru the Fed Govt.
He was giving them freedom to order in addition. Not turning his back on them.
The press is Just awful.
Too much NYT and you end up like Joe Biden.
Since this is a matter of national security then arrest those reporters and lockdown the NYT’s.
Mara Gay who works for the New York Times deceptively edited the quote and added her own spin in the following tweet:
Trump told governors this morning they are on their own: Respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment try getting it yourselves, Mr. Trump told the governors during the conference call, a recording of which was shared with The New York Times.
You may recall Ms. Gay, assisted by Brian Williams, recently demonstrated “new math” in showing how Bloomberg could have given each US Citizen a million dollars.
Move over AOC, the village may have found a better idiot.
