WASHINGTON — A clinical trial evaluating a vaccine designed to protect against the new coronavirus will begin Monday, according to a government official.

The first participant in the trial will receive the experimental vaccine on Monday, the official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the trial has not been publicly announced yet. The National Institutes of Health is funding the trial, which is taking place at a Kaiser Permanente research facility in Washington state, the official said.

Public health officials say it will take a year to 18 months to fully validate any potential vaccine.

How long for the vaccine to be active? How will they test people? Send them to Italy?

It’s a vaccine created by Moderna. Stage I trials evaluate safety I believe.

Stage II and III test for antibody response. The difference is stage 3 tests a larger population.

If this becomes a long term problem you can bet on some fast tracking if it shows good results in the second stage.

Nope, volunteers are signed up to receive them in Washington State.
Even with a successful vaccine and fast track, a year would be incredible.

Our best hope, short term, is an antiviral called Remdesivir. It’s in late stage trials and has had success in treating patients in China and in the USA. As of now it’s available for compassionate use and has to be approved, then flown in. If it’s clinically proven to be effective, Gilead will have to mass produce and send to hospitals around the country

Wierd the Swine Flu was provided to high risk in less than 6 months after human testing. This 18-month thing appears to be a myth during a pandemic.

Initial Phase I human testing began with Novartis’ MF59 candidate in July 2009 and as of 19 November 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) said that 65 million doses of vaccine had been administered.

When we have a coronavirus vaccine ready to go, it should be made widely available, free of charge. Period.— Joe Biden (Text Join to 30330) (@JoeBiden) March 15, 2020

LOL a week ago the word was "affordable". Now all of a sudden it's "free of charge".

The last time I looked there were at least three vaccines either ready to go or in their final stages.

That means nothing to the bureaucrats, of course. Every “i” must be dotted, every “t” must be crossed, lest they lose power and the masses realize what useless unproductive drones they are.

America is trapped in that silly system, but many other nations aren’t. Once a vaccine is out that works, they’re not going to wait. It will be interesting to see what happens then.

Uh Oh, what are we gonna do when Coronavirus has a vaccine to is like the flu?

Leftists will probably claim credit, then blame Trump for something unreasonable.

I think flu vaccines generally have a standard “platform.” So the H1N1 vaccine was a matter of identifying the antigens and getting the correct antibody response.

The vaccine for this is a bit different design and not rolled out in mass. One of the vaccine corps has a developed vaccine for MERS and they were supposedly going to repurpose it to target Covid 19.

Either way, if a vaccine shows great success in stage II, you have to wonder if they will speed things up.

Safety is first but stage 2 is crucial as it determines if the vaccine can create a robust immune response. I’m thinking moderna’s vaccine did that in animal testing

It’s really a distraction for the Super Soldier Captain America serum for the military to use.

None are going into late stage.

Moderna starts stage I this week. A handful of others will be starting early stage in next week as well.

Gilead’s Remdesivir (antiviral) is concluding late stage trials and results are supposed rise be out in April. It will be a huge sigh of relief or another bit of bad news. What I’ve read is that it has efficacy, but has to be given in the fairly early to mid stages of infection. Which is typical of most antivirals I guess

I think I read somewhere, that they are doing the animal and human testing at the same time. That this vaccine doesn’t use dead virus cells and uses some kind of gene resequencing and is considered a lot safer. That is why the shortcut on the animal testing.

I would suspect that the use of quantum computers could greatly speed up this process.

There are over 90 pharmaceutical companies working on a cure and vaccine, several are showing great progress (not factored into the death rate), Favilavir, Remdesivir, Actemra, REGN3048-3051, blood transfusions from survivors, etc.

I would love for them to spend a billion on collecting, processing, and dispursing the most efficient cure methods throughout the world. Hopefully, then create an AI dedicated supercomputer that formulates a vaccine candidate in days for future events.
