...The restrictions expire on May 11.
These restrictions are necessary to preserve force readiness, limit the continuing spread of the virus, and preserve the health and welfare of Service members, DoD civilian employees, their families, and the local communities in which we live, the memo said...

Does anyone know if this applies to National Guard units as well? Or are they under their state’s Governor’s control unless Federalized?
My daughter arrived at Fort Sill yesterday to be with her husband. Talk about running a Just In Time supply chain.
My local supermarket is completely empty, unreal. All this crap just to get Trump out of office so twitching Nancy can cash in and demetia Joe can be POTUS.
I can see the reasoning but does the DOD have the authority to prevent a serviceman’s civilian wife from traveling?
Ha that’s true. I was just reading today in the NY Post US Treasonist Gov. Andrew Cuomo claiming New York had it’s first death from Coronavirus, an “82 year old woman with underlying respiratory issues”. Well wait a minute, maybe the “underlying respiratory issues” killed her. If she had emphysema, a freakin cold could have killed her, a malfunctioning oxygen tank could have killed her, but right away this guy is blaming coronavirus further alarming the public?
That made me smile, been there done that. Prayers for them
What if they need to impress the young adult spouses and children of service members into some sort of service themselves, such as watching children of service members, taking necessities to the homebound and elderly? Can they do that on the basis that military dependents are benefiting from the benefits (health care, housing allowance, etc.) given to them by virtue of being a military family?
I would put emphasis on the preserving force readiness part.Bring Out Your DeadYour wish is my command:
These restrictions are necessary to preserve force readiness

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
The false positive rate was 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's or one old farts life, it's worth it.
If she had emphysema, a freakin cold could have killed her, a malfunctioning oxygen tank could have killed her, but right away this guy is blaming coronavirus further alarming the public?
And thats the thing. When the dust settles you can bet the farm this virus at most contributed to whatever health issues the patient was already battling.
I can see the reasoning but does the DOD have the authority to prevent a serviceman’s civilian wife from traveling?
Probably not, but this applies mostly to PCS and TDY travel.
For leave travel, the service member is limited to local travel.
No, the DoD cant coerce civilian spouses and children to work. They can ask for help, and try to guilt people into volunteering, but have no ability to force people into labor. The benefits military families receive are either part of the servicemember compensation package (housing, insurance) or a legal or regulatory directed benefit.

I don't know, but Sen. Rand Paul and others need to look into the "emergency powers" of mayors, governors, and even the president. I trust Trump to do the right thing, but I sure as hell wouldn't have trusted Comrade Hillary.
Fair enough.
It’s more serious than that. A lot of these people who just emptied your supermarket are some of your fellow “flu bros”, IMO. While it’s not the end of the world, extra is necessary in case of quarantine, and your fellow “flu bros” are just recognizing that. Me, I’m already stocked up, so if my Food Lion is picked clean, I’ll just turn around, go home and break out the beans and Chef Boy-ar-Dee. YUM!
It’s possible, but COVID probably caused her to have the viral pneumonia in her weakened state. If you’re strong, it will stay in your throat. If you’re weak, it’ll move into your lungs and wreak havoc.
...DoD can’t coerce civilian spouses and children to work.
Who is try to?
