“And then there is the Italy problem. There, as in the U.S. and everywhere else, hospitals have limited capacity to treat patients with severe lung illnesses. If the health-care system gets overwhelmed with an enormous number of COVID-19 cases requiring intensive care, the quality of care will deteriorate and a larger fraction of patients will die than would die in a well-functioning health-care system. This is why people keep talking about the need to flatten the curve: Merely slowing the growth of the epidemic, even if it doesnt reduce the ultimate number of cases, would lessen the pressure on the medical system is considerably. But as I have reported this story, I have gotten an increasingly sinking feeling about the flatten the curve discourse for reasons that have to do with the other variable in the table: the fatality rate per infection.
U.S. hospitals contain about 900,000 hospital beds, of which fewer than 100,000 are for critical care. Of course, most of those beds are already in use for people with other medical problems U.S. hospitals admit approximately 36 million patients annually. If 165 million Americans ultimately contract the novel coronavirus, how much would we need to flatten the curve to fit all those who need hospital care into properly equipped beds to avoid a situation like in Italy, where patients are being denied treatment for lack of available resources?
Justin Lessler, an associate professor of epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, told me he believes that flattening the curve will only work to manage hospital capacity if the fatality rate from COVID-19 is on the low end of the range of estimates. I was discussing this with a colleague, and I had been operating under the idea that maybe the infection fatality ratio was around one in a thousand, Lessler told me. And under that, things are very, very bad, but you can envision a world where we spread out the epidemic and slow it down and never overrun our ICU capacity.”
I am wondering if something such as epsom salt will help. I have heard that epsom salt removes toxins for the body.
Just a thought.
Excuse me for stepping on your post there, by the way - but I meant to point out what could be a big fly in the ointment re:your post on the elections
**Somebody is going to get hurt. ***
True. I still remember drivers duking it out over long gas lines back in the 1970s and 1980s.
So do I.
Want to get the Dems, media and Libs to stop the politics, stop creating panic, and work to end the epidemic? We need to start extensive rumors that with this outbreak problem and the President declaring a national emergency, Trump will be able to cancel the election and remain in office as long as he wants.
If they believed that, the corona virus story would vanish from the headlines over night!

Bentonite clay.
oh, and... wash your hands ;)
I understand the issue is potentially not having enough hospital capacity, but 80,000 people out of 1.4 billion in China have had CoVid19. Maybe that’s not the real number, even if we say it’s 140,000 who have gotten the virus, that is 1 1/100 of 1 percent. That same number in the U.S. would be about 33,000. If 20 percent of these people need hospitalization that is 6600 people. China may be able to enforce quarantines better than we can, but their general health conditions are not as good.

These charts are not done by someone trained in Data Analytics. Here’s the facts:As more test are done you will see more confirmed cases but death rate % dropping as it already has started to do that’s because it is more mild than reported for most people and so far only serious cases get counted for the most part. Italy probably has many more infected but unreported. There will be more deaths, it might even surpass the 12,461 deaths in US in 2009 from H7N9 aka swine flu.
But the fatality rate for COVID 19 is nowhere near as high as some alarmist make it out to be. That is why no one, repeat ZERO under the age of 10 has died anywhere in the world, including China and Italy and Iran. Of all the infected world cases 91% are rated as having mild cases and almost half have recovered with no virus. Will the absolute numbers go up, yes they will.
The country that has done the most testing that can be relied upon is S Korea , they have tested well over 250,000 and have 8,086 cases and 72 deaths for a fatality rate of .008 or less than 1%. That is more than the flu and serious but nothing like what some are reporting here on FR and in the news.
As a matter of fact if you add up the top 15 countries with reported cases excluding China, Italy and Iran ) you get over 21,000 cases and 247 deaths for a fatality rate of .012-about 1%. It’s probably lower and more in line with S Korea as many cases are even more mild go unreported.
And if we catch a break like this, it will be even low: Dr. Ian Lipkin of Columbia University was interviewed on Fox Business and he was saying that a therapy involving blood plasma from recovered patients was used on 10 seriously infected people in China and that the results were excellent. Ten out of ten were cured.
“Ten out of ten were cured.”

Sorry, but that’s pure fantasy. There is no vaccine, there is no cure. Although there is no lack of frauds claiming they have either one or the other - or both. Even the guy from the old “PTL Club” show was peddling his sure-fire cure all.
At any rate, you should really let the President know about any secret cures, the country’s gonna need ‘em, stat.
If you’re going to listen to anyone, forget the quacks and other charlatans peddling their miracles. Pay attention to those who are actually in the trenches fighting the war, instead.
Class action civil lawsuits against MSM companies and individuals, by companies and investors, for huge financial losses suffered because MSM companies and individuals incited panic. Same as shouting Fire! in a theater.
Crowd fund the lawyers to boost the process. Hit them hard and continuously.
Shut the MSM up by shutting them down.
