Hey, at least everyone has ongoing electric bills, of necessity. No electric bill debt—and so no irresponsible electric bill debt—to speak of.

Yes, but I’m guessing from your handle that you’re not an entitled millennial who has been taught from birth that everything should be free and anyone who seeks to make a profit is evil.

Don’t do it. This is a very fake crisis.

Bullbleeep! Suspend repayments would be first step to loan forgivness. Anyone can see that - the commies went the taxpaying workers to pay their deadbeats’ loans off for them. Screw the D-commies!

Wouldn’t it be easier to just give every taxpayer a check for $1 million?

Call it Universal Reparations for All Injustice of All Time.

Why Student loans and not mortgage payments or car loans?
Oh, it’s the Dem constituency.

I’m not a fan of this.

You are correct. I am a GenX guy who was raised to work for what I wanted/needed. Also, I was raised to borrow no more than you actually need to at any given time (I only borrowed money during grad school, and that was just to cover tuition, fees, and books).

This is a good opportunity to get the government out of the business completely. Sell it off in exchange for a six month hiatus on loan payments and 25% write down of balances.

Acquiring company has option of hanging a portion of the uncollectable debt back on the colleges who originated them.

The colleges, in turn, have the option of suspending the degree of the debtor until an acceptable repayment plan is in place.

Any new loans will be made under the type of conditions used by the Bank of North Dakota for colleges in their state. Their default rate is near zero because they limit their loan exposure, particularly on borrowers pursuing unmarketable degrees.

Yup.
Wikipedia:
“The Jubilee is the year at the end of seven cycles of shmita (Sabbatical years) and, according to Biblical regulations, had a special impact on the ownership and management of land in the Land of Israel. According to the Book of Leviticus, Hebrew slaves and prisoners would be freed, debts would be forgiven, and the mercies of God would be particularly manifest.”

The left must be loving this. Be careful what you sign Mr. President

Yes. Who would have thought one event could make everyday Americans consider Socialist or Communist solutions.

Paying people to not work. Paying parents because teachers at closed down schools cannot be babysitters all day. Closing down the production and services of the whole country. People refusing to go out to spend any money. Demanding forgiveness of loans and suggesting a suspension of payroll tax.

No patient copays for virus related expenses and test or vaccines. Plus nationalization of industries that make IV bags, masks, the test kits and a future vaccine.

Not just students there are parents still paying on student loans. Health care providers, Nurses, CNA’s, Doctor’s, etc. In Michigan they just cancelled school for 3 weeks. Parents who work now have to find childcare or stay home; this will affect Nurses, health care workers, labs, Xrays techs, etc. Not to mention financial hit to pay for daycare.

So does this mean the loan payments are suspended but interest continues? Leading to a nasty surprise in a couple months when people suddenly discover they have a much bigger balance than they thought? Or is interest zeroed out as well, so anyone who does keep payment can make a couple 100% principal payments?

Either way, if we can somehow use this to get the government the hell out of education, that would be simply amazing.

“Don’t do it. This is a very fake crisis.”

Do it. No MAGA Trump supporter would vote against him because of this (even if they didn’t like the idea), but a lot of Bernie-supporting young people would vote for him because of it.

The big loser would be Biden.

“The left must be loving this.”

Why? If Trump eases the debt burden on young people, they’re more likely to vote for Trump - and against Biden - in November. If the Left is happy about that, they’re stupid.
