White House Director of Trade and Manufacturing Policy Peter Navarro confirmed Wednesday the administration is working on an executive order to eliminate the governments reliance on foreign-made medical supplies.
The Buy American order comes on the heels of concerns expressed by senators during their Tuesday meeting with President Donald Trump on Capitol Hill.

The order would prevent federal agencies from purchasing medical supplies, including face masks, gloves and ventilators, from China.

China has prevented the export of surgical face masks, severely limiting supplies in the U.S. and countries around the world.
China has managed to dominate all aspects of the supply chain using the same unfair trade practices that it has used to dominate other sectors cheap sweatshop labor, lax environmental regulations and massive government subsidies, Navarro told New York Times. As President Trump has said, what we need to do is bring those jobs home so that we can protect the public health and the economic and national security of the country.
He added that the EO would cover more than 400 essential medicines that satisfy the priority health care needs of the population. Additional products targeted in the order include medical countermeasures made to protect against chemical and biological threats, radiation, nuclear fallout and infectious diseases like coronavirus.
Nothing we do now will impede in any way our ability to get what we need when we need it from foreign sources, he told CBS.

May her sadness increase faster than the spread of any given Chinese bioweapon.
Another problem is that the supply chains are very complex for many products. Production in the US would still need to get materials from a global supply chain. One would need to amend the tax code to encourage businesses to keep reasonable reserves of their input materials. Sound-bytes ignore these very real issues.
Huge, didn't see this reported on CBS This Morning, they were too busy spreading false info.
LAWYERS HAVE HELPED GET THE MEDICAL SUPPLIES AND PHARMAS OUT OF AMERICA.
Sure its a half assed unsupported theory - watch though its probably true.
The Chinese most likely did the unthinkable to save communism with chinese characteristics from its creditors.
They did it with the babies.
A nation full of only male children now they are in charge of stuff and things, House of cards collapsing, add on some face saving and there disgustingness of their culture.
All Chinese imports need to be banned and all Chinese nationals in the United States need to be shown the door.
China is the worlds pariah - now its collapsing its time to isolate them and their sickly exhausted population.
“Huge, didn’t see this reported on CBS This Morning, they were too busy spreading false info.”
I think that something like this would have worth mentioning in Trump’s address to the nation last night.
Bravo! *Trump Rally Applause Sound*
I have several cases that I stockpiled, for sale. Truth is the LEDs are better in every way and the retail pricing now makes them a bargain.
Something started out bad and ended good is a great thing and people still complaining about the new toilet stools simply have never tried them, but still seem compelled to complain about a product about which they know nothing. It was a crying shame that someone didn't show the new stools to the President before he railed on about them. Dishwasher complaints were valid, old ones clean much better than new ones.
Great. And every American working in Chinese pharma should steal their R&D, formulas, etc., info before coming home to work. It would partially make up for all the Chinese have stolen from us over the years.
There goes your Johnson & Johnson stock.
Great news! I love this commonsense President. It’s pathetic he has to tell wealthy corporate officers and investors which country they belong to.
Praise be to YHVH (God)!
What kind of people have allowed the production of their medical and other security products to be moved to an enemy nation? Become reliant upon their enemies to produce their vital materials?
A people asleep, being set for destruction by their own government, corporations and institutions.
The magnitude of the West’s dependence on China for medical supplies cannot be overstated. From medicine, to surgical instruments and supplies, medical clothing, IV bags and tubes, thermometers, syringes, etc., etc. I have no idea about more expensive diagnostic machinery such as xrays, blood testing centrifuges, MR1s, radiation therapy machines ... I expect there are some domestic manufacturers of these more expensive items, but I don’t think we have full information about the extent of your vulnerability. This has been a wake up call in so many ways. Thank goodness that America has a. President who acknowledges the threat and is taking bold actions to correct the situation.
This globalization BS has to stop! Moving essentials to foreign countries is the most stupid thing this past government has done. The past administrations has allowed China for one to hold the sword over our heads.
This country is more then capable of providing the essentials required to survive wars, epidemics and trade problems and we should have this as a priority.
No more relying on foreign countries to supply America.
My point is this:
The “downsizing” of American manufacturing was an intentional play by the Powers That Be to reduce America’s wealth and influence on the World stage.
And, by the by, to enrich themselves!
“Thank goodness that America has a. President who acknowledges the threat”
And IIRC, Trump has been warning about this problem for MANY years before the presidency was a glimmer in his eye — maybe 15 or 20 years.
I believe this is how the pimping of the corona virus will come back to bite the traitors to this country. I think Trump will turn it around on them again! Best Ever!
Don’t forget the booming software industry as well.
This virus should be a cautionary tale why we need to produce meds in the U.S.
