The fact that it’s basically spread over most of the country is troubling to say the least.

Not true. The Corona virus has been around a long time. It is often CURRENTLY referred to as Cov-19, because it is a particular strain of Corona identified in 2019. Like all flu type viruses it mutates constantly and each year has distinct differences from what was identified in the prior year(s). That is why the flu vaccine is a new vaccine every year, as they try to keep up with the latest strains of a virus.
1. They will develop a vaccine for Cov-19. It is likely only weeks, if at most months away.
2. The Cov-19 vaccine will be modified and made new each year, as Cov-19, like other flu-type viruses will develop slightly new strains every year.

My son has been through this for the last several years. It’s not a pretty sight. They still can’t identify it.

About 20,000 in this country already DEAD from this seasons flu and not a word about it.

You just described sepsis and shock of which sepsis is the leading killer world wide. We have had the surviving sepsis campaign since 2002. Millions of people die of septic shock (a vicious cytokines response) each year.
It is not the flu. It is a cold. It probably has been here for longer than expected. Assuming the conservative estimate of 10,000 cases from epidemiologists at the CDC the mortality rate is 0.01-0.1%
But why let the true facts get in the way if a good panic.
Oh please.... and in 1918 when 1,000 people died in a single day in Philadelphia that wasn’t flu either because it was something never seen before. A flu virus that only reacts a certain way when your life alarm clock hits a certain age... is well... is a contorted explanation.
