A 22-year-old Guatemalan woman who passed her initial asylum screening and was in detention for several months died in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody at a Texas hospital Sunday, according to a source with knowledge of the matter.
The death is the eighth in ICE custody in the 2020 fiscal year, which began Oct. 1, and equals the number of deaths for the entire 2019 fiscal year.

On Feb. 7, Ochoa Yoc de Ramirez was taken from detention to a hospital in Oklahoma, where she was admitted. Two days later, she had her gallbladder surgically removed, the source said. On Feb. 10, she was returned to a detention center in Oklahoma, then taken to the detention facility in Texas on Feb. 13, the source said. On Feb. 18, officials took her to a hospital in Texas for treatment for abdominal pain. From that point on, she remained in the care of Texas hospitals until she was pronounced dead Sunday, the source said.
ICE officials have long said that the agency is dedicated to providing timely and comprehensive medical care to immigrants in its custody, noting that they have access to a daily sick call and 24-hour emergency care. The agency has publicized that it spends more than $269 million each year on health care services.

BuzzFeed News first reported the memo and documented how it contained reports of detainees being given incorrect medication and suffering from delays in treating withdrawal symptoms, as well as one who was allowed to become so mentally unstable he lacerated his own penis and required surgery.

Wait, she comes here with a medical condition, we treat her, release her back to ICE, she still had issues and she was sent back to the hospital and sadly passed on?
Seems like we did everything we could, did the right thing here. But the media will spin this to being ICE is evil and “orange man bad”.
Its probably why she came here, get “free” health care, and it sounds like it was too late.
The people who died in custody arrived would have died anyway in their home countries. If they died in their native countries the MSM would not have cared at all. They arrived already dying and without medical records, which makes treating them extremely difficult.

No “immigrants” died in ICE custody. She was foreign national (perhaps an illegal alien) applying for immigrant status which she had not received.
Sad she died, but she wasn’t an immigrant. And while this sounds cold, and indeed may be a little cold, but she would have died in her own country because I see little likelihood she would have received treatment comparable to what she got here on my nickle. ICE didn’t cause her condition.
I refuse to accept the collective guilt the left is trying to pin on us for the diseases and conditions these people have when they invade our country. I notice the libs don’t care about the American children getting whooping cough and tuberculosis from illegal aliens they put in our public schools.
Many more American citizen veterans die because they didn’t get proper timely care from the VA than these illegal aliens...veterans wish they could get such good care...

and if this young woman age 22 had to have her gall bladder removed she had a serious illness before she committed the crime of trespassing onto US soil...
