Why Russia Is Rooting For Bernie Sanders

Recently Senator Bernie Sanders acknowledged that he had been briefed by U.S. intelligence on Russia’s attempts to interfere in U.S. elections on his behalf.

SNIP

I am not a political pundit, so I won’t attempt to speculate on who Moscow would prefer as the U.S. president. But there is at least one area in which the Russians would love to see Sanders’s policies implemented.

On energy policy, there are two things that Sanders has promised that would make the Russians (and OPEC) very happy.

Fracking Boosted American Energy Independence

The combination of hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and horizontal drilling has led to a renaissance in U.S. energy production. Since 2006, net imports of petroleum and petroleum products into the U.S. have fallen by 13 million barrels per day (BPD). That means hundreds of billions of dollars that were being sent to countries like Russia and Saudi Arabia for oil imports are now staying in the U.S. economy. U.S consumers have benefited tremendously from the practice. Multiple studies have shown that consumers are now saving hundreds of billions of dollars per year in energy costs.

Bernie Sanders has vowed to end this practice if elected President. He has already introduced legislation to do just that.

Making Russian Energy Great Again

Russia would be a significant beneficiary of a U.S. fracking ban, as it would allow them to recapture market share that was lost as U.S. oil and gas production surged. U.S. oil production would fall, but so would natural gas production. That, in turn, will also help Russia retain its control of the global natural gas export market.

Bernie’s policies would cripple America. Bernie hates the US as much as he loves socialism.

Because they’re still competing with us. A communist world doesn’t matter to them now, but a weaker US vs-a-vs them does. They know communism\socialism kills economies better us then them.

I don’t know about it not mattering to them now. They do still back the Nicaraguans and Angolans, they do still back China, they do still have that Karl Marx statue and Lenin’s Mausoleum up and running instead of, say, torching them or tearing them down, and making sure what’s left of Lenin’s corpse is hung from a street lamp, and Putin strongly implies that he himself still adheres to Communist views.

And personally, I’d prefer a Russia that fully gives up on Communism to the extent of utterly destroying any trace of it than one that pretends to have given up on it yet when looking closely at it still worships it to this day.

Their communist party is a large but minority party. They’re much much more into a nationalist outlook rather then an international Marxist one. Point is they’re not as in interested in exporting a socialist viewpoint as they once were. They back some of their old allies but now more as a counter to us then for ideological solidarity.

Anyway its not a binary thing its a continuum, their political pendulum is more nationalistic the communist for now.

That’s not good enough. If I were Russia, and I wanted to make sure I was no longer socialist, I’d make 100% certain that I sabotage my own allies specifically to get rid of socialism, not to mention outright wipe OUT socialism in my own country and leave no trace of it (that means no more Lenin Mausoleum, no more Karl Marx bust at that public square at Moscow, no more Communist party even. In fact, have it go the way the Nazis did after World War II). Nothing less than the complete extinction of Socialism as an ideology would suffice. And yes, that ALSO goes for the West as well. I wouldn’t even care if it is advantageous to Russia as a result if they destroy Communism utterly.
