US coronavirus cases hit more than 400: Frightening photo of an infected Nebraska woman, 36, being taken to a bio-containment unit is released as the outbreak grows and death toll rises to 19

On Saturday night, 31 states and the District of Columbia reported at least one confirmed or presumptive positive case, with those cases totaling 372. Including those infected people repatriated from abroad, and those trapped aboard the quarantined cruise ship Grand Princess off San Francisco, the total is at least 442.

Washington state had the most cases with 103, including 16 deaths, followed by New York with 89 cases and California, with 81 cases and one death. Florida, which reports 11 cases, has also seen two fatalities.

In the interior of the country, a number of more sparsely populated states reported their first cases on Saturday, including Missouri, Indiana, Minnesota and Nebraska.

In Nebraska, there were dramatic scenes as a woman who tested positive for the virus was rushed from a community hospital to the nation's leading biocontainment unit at he University of Nebraska Medical Center Omaha.

The 36-year-old was photographed being transported to the facility in a hi-tech isolation pod late Friday.

The nursing home in WA State was using a CPAP machine and a nebulizer — you couldn’t ask for a better way to spray virus droplets all over the place. The firefighters attending the patients there said none of the nursing home staff were wearing any PPE.

We don't know what we are dealing with yet. People are getting re-infected and keeling over within hours of presentation of symptoms.

There are also indications that it causes long term damage to the lungs and heart. So, for all the "just a flu" folks... you may get over it quickly and then a few years down the line end up with a serious respiratory/cardiovascular problem.

It also has a long incubation period, stays active on surfaces for up to 8 days (current estimate), has a decent number of asymptomatic carriers, and is very transmissible. and don't take my word for it... several researchers have publicly claimed it's an engineered virus... bioweapon.

The Chief of Australian Defence Force just sent out a order directing all Defence personnel with cold/flu symptoms to self-isolate and contact local health authorities to arrange testing.

Please. The death rate from this current virus is low.

There’s a new flu every year because viruses mutate and that’s why so many are infected. This is following exactly the same pattern. In this case it seems to be fatal mostly to older people or people with respiratory problems. For the rest, it’s a bad experience but they recover.

Sensible people get a flu vaccine because while it may not be accurate...some years the CDC has picked the wrong virus...generally it helps.

There will be a vaccine for this, but by then the disease will probably have disappeared or mutated into something else. That’s the life of a virus. Even so, I bet there are a lot of anti-vax folks on FR who would not get an anti-wuhan virus shot no matter what.

I posted this article by Liz Sprecht yesterday: Risk of Systemic Healthcare Failure due to #COVID19 where she runs some simple exponential growth numbers and shows us running out of all hospital rooms and masks in short order if exponential growth occurs. She mentions the thousands of other items needed from ventilators to saline drip bags that will run out, too.

About three weeks ago it was announced five patients were being moved to a hospital in Spokane. It was one of only 11 hospitals in the nation with the proper isolation rooms for highly infectious diseases and has something like 10 beds. The number of such isolation rooms in the entire country is quite low and will be quickly overwhelmed.

I'm in high risk group due to cancer. But, regardless, please store a few weeks of food in case a cluster breaks out in your area. You might be right and it will be a nothingburger. But, preparation is just good common sense given what we DO know at this point.

My "agenda" on here is not to convince people how bad this is or could be, but to counter those who are convincing people to take unnecessary risks. Those in a high risk group (and some who aren't) could well suffer greatly as a result of listening to the "it's nothing" crowd. I wouldn't want that blood on my hands.

There is a big difference between SARS-COV-II aka as Novel Coronavirus and one of the common cold coronaviruses.

You need to educate your self.
