The small-town hospital where Kentuckys first case of coronavirus appeared says it took steps to isolate the patient, even though the person had not yet been tested for coronavirus.
Harrison Memorial Hospital also said Saturday that employees who had contact with the patient with coronavirus will isolate themselves to protect against the spread of the disease.
The Cynthiana hospital said in an announcement posted on its website that the person who has tested positive for COVID-19 first came to the facility with flu-like symptoms. The hospital did not say when that occurred.
The hospital said it has been screening patients for the possibility that they have coronavirus since early January.
At that time patient did not meet KDPH (Kentucky Department for Public Health) health screening and was treated for the presented symptoms, the hospital said in the statement. When symptoms did not subside, the patient returned.
At that point, the hospital did further tests and contacted the state health department, but the department determined the patient did not qualify for testing for coronavirus, the hospital said.
At that point, the hospitals clinicians decided to admit the patient to the hospital because of their condition. The patient, who has not been publicly identified, was placed in a negative pressure isolation room, the hospital said.
The patient was transferred from there to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital and on Friday afternoon was confirmed to have COVID-19. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said Saturday that the persons condition is serious but improving.

Very bad that they are refusing to run tests.
Denial. See it on every thread about this topic.
I do not understand why they are refusing to do tests.
Anyone know the true cost of a test?? Not what they are charging.
Are they not testing because of scarcity of tests?
This whole thing is bungled from the start.
Disease is a great way for the elite to control a population.
Not that they’re necessarily doing it here, but the point is made.
Screening since early January?
Screening in Jan/Feb resulted in “go home and self monitor.” Meanwhile folks bragged, “whats the big deal? There are zero cases in the US.”
Yep...which means either faulty reporting..or they were told early.
Here in Ohio we were treated today to a news conference with Governor deWhine discussing corona virus. We need to stay calm.
The scroll on the bottom of the tv screen was, “no cases detected in Ohio”
Can’t make this stuff up.
As of Feb 14th:
“More than 5,400 people had been asked to self-quarantine in California alone as of Feb. 14, according to the California Department of Public Health.”

It is obviously something different than performing the test, I guess.
Wow. We are in Baghdad Bob territory.
no cases detected in Ohio
Are you saying there are cases detected in Ohio?
I think that is what you are saying.
Because if they run a test and its positive, it raises the current US infection numbers.
Its apparently better to just say its a mild case of flu, at 101.4 degrees F.
It is because they do not have enough test kits and they cannot process the tests fast enough to meet the cases that are being turned in. Test kits are being severely rationed.
The CDC has pretty much failed to manage the production and distribution of test kits. Only a hand-full of results can be processed each day and turn-around is 4-5 days. The first batch of tests released to the States were defective and had to be trashed.
Firings are definitely in order.
By contrast, the South Koreans are reportedly doing over 10,000 tests per day and anyone can get them at a drive-up station. This is what is possible, right now.
A re-staffed CDC should be able to do at least as well. Or maybe some other organization should be in charge of this.

From what I’m hearing the thought is that the Pro Football Hall of Fame is ending out Cosmic Waves protecting the people of Ohio from this virus - or at least that’s what most people in the state seem to think.
THEM? Who is 'them?' I thought this was one case. /sarc
The PC culture that banished use he/she pronouns for fears of gender discrimination is the same culture in charge of your tests and health, and that bodes ill for America.
The fact that health departments and the CDC are staffed with government employees is already a big part of the problem with this pandemic. These lazy a-holes are going to make a lot of people dead.
While other countries successfully rushed out SINGLE VIRUS tests, the CDC folks decided to try to cram 3 virus tests in one kit(Cov-19, MERS, SARS) and ended up with a BIG FAIL and a month lost with zero testing. But hey, case count stayed low and the market didn’t crater sooner.
