SHANGHAI - About 70 people were trapped on Saturday after a hotel being used for coronavirus quarantine collapsed in the Chinese city of Quanzhou in Fujian Province, the citys authority said on its website.
Video posted online showed orange-clad rescue workers clambering over mounds of rubble. It was not clear how tall the building had been before it collapsed, but there appeared to be commercial properties at street level.
The building collapsed at about 7:30 p.m. (1130 GMT) and 34 people were rescued in the following two hours, the Quanzhou authorities said.
The official Peoples Daily said the hotel had opened in June 2018 with 80 rooms and was being used to quarantine people during the coronavirus outbreak.
The Fujian provincial government said that as of Friday, the province had 296 cases of coronavirus and 10,819 people had been placed under observation after being classified as suspected close contacts.
No reason was given for the collapse of the hotel.

Ping.
Dang...talk about a complicated rescue.

No reason was given for the collapse of the hotel.
Here’s a reason, it was built in China, by communists.
Bernie, Bernie, Bernie!
Dang...talk about a bad day.
Judas Priest. And then we have some goofball getting off the plane in the US saying he would rather be in China for treatment. Right, uh huh, that’s the ticket.
How about not only no but hell no, I wouldn’t prefer to be in China and get shot, or have a building collapse on my sickbed (if I were sick which I am not), or get welded into my “flat”, or dragged off screaming to a “hospital” (prison.)
We can hope it’s also a metaphor for the CCP.
What is the capacity of each floor? How many were in there?
Only 2 years old! If not straining capacity limits, guess its just good ol Chinese commie engineering.
Bad concrete? Cheated on the rebar?
It’s scary to look at some of their hi-rise buildings...
If it wasnt for bad luck I wouldnt have any luck at all...
... comes to mind.
Now some Freeper MARYS will predict that it will happen here as well.
I wish we had a media that would ask him why doesn’t take a trip out to China, get the virus and get treatment?
Idiot, total idiot
Send him to North Korea, where the “free” treatment is a bullet
Was it built with left over parts from the “hospital” they built in ten days? /s
China is pure third world. They stole all their advancements and really just skipped all the hard won lessons of a truly advanced nation. They have the outward trappings of the first world, but they are fakers. Paper tiger.
This just shows how insidious the coronavirus actually is. It causes hotels to collapse. If just one half of one percent of the hotels in the United States were to collapse, it would dwarf the menace posed by the actual bodily effects of the disease. Millions could perish.
But it was built very quickly.
Most of what is sold in America, is made in China.
Exactly. CNN is gushing over Chinese success but it doesnt seem very successful at all, either in its tactics (locking all potentially affected people, the sick and the well) into a building together, shutting down the city so people had no way of getting food and were naturally going to have to try to escape in order to eat, shooting people who didnt comply immediately, etc.
or its results. Of course numbers are decreasing, because thats what happens with a flu-type virus when it runs through the vulnerable population.
I think actually think the Chinese response is one of the things that has spread panic here, because people are worried about being subjected to these tactics. The open secret of Communism is that they dont give a damn about their population and they dont even have to pretend because they have all the power.
This is Bernies ideal, but I dont think the rest of us are on board with it. Except for CNN.
