Trump replaces chief of staff Mulvaney with close ally Meadows

Mick Mulvaney, President Trump’s third and least powerful chief of staff, was replaced Friday by North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows, an announcement Trump made in an evening tweet.

Trump named Mulvaney special envoy to Northern Ireland after a 14-month tenure...

Meadows, one of the most conservative members of the House since 2013, has been a staunch Trump defender and leading surrogate during the recent impeachment.

Meadows was one of the most disruptive members of Congress during the rise of the tea party, filing a motion to remove Republican House Speaker John A. Boehner in 2015 that helped lead to his resignation. Meadows announced in December that he would not seek reelection to the House this year, fueling speculation that he would take a job in the Trump administration.

Maybe just aligning skills to the main task at hand.

Mick Mulvaney (OMB Director) oversaw getting the wall funded,

The next phase of the Administration's focus - reelection, and sending guilty Democrats to jail for their crimes (hope springs eternal).

The President finally has a true ally as Chief of Staff in restoring the rule of law and securing the country for our posterity. The reason Trump got elected was to arrest and reverse the illegal alien inundation.
Removals need to be seriously ramped up.
E-verify needs to be mandated.
They are starting to cut off benefits.
That’s how you get them to leave on their own.

Locking up people for their crimes is Barr’s job.
Let’s hope he does it.

Most excellent, a fellow Tar Heel. One who is quite willing to kick ass and take names, too.

“Mick was great!”

I agree. I don’t think there was any problem here - he came in to shepherd a high priority task (funding the wall), and the mission was accomplished.

Next year’s budget request for the wall is only $2 billion, indicating that they have the money needed already, to fufil the Comprehensive Plan requirements, and they are falling back down to the annual wedge amount in the baseline budget - essentially a maintenance level of patching a few dozen more miles per year, out to 2027.

Mark Meadows announced he would not be running for Congress months ago, indicating that this move was planned before then.

Mick Mulvaney probably had his pick of plum assignments, as his reward.

Give Meadows some years in this role then run for POTUS in 2024. He would be a great successor.

Good! I haven’t trusted Mulvaney since he tried pushing the questionable Suleyman “Sul” Ozerden for nomination to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. Some patriotic Republican Senator blocked the nomination for which I’m grateful.

We don’t want to have another Circuit Court Judge like Trump’s first nominee to the 9th CCA - a Hawaiian Judge who acts/decides like he’s a pure “Obama judge”.

Announcement made 8PM on a Friday night. I find this curious. In light of other recent personnel moves, I get the impression that Trump is finally getting all the right pieces in place. The coming general election cycle should be a real barn-burner and sets the stage for a blockbuster Trump second term.

As a native Tar Heel, I have been very proud of our Congressman and his loyalty to President Trump.

Congratulations, Congressman Meadows, being the President’s chief of staff is a great honor.
