eBay is escalating its fight against online price gouging during the coronavirus outbreak with a new outright ban on all sales of face masks, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes. The new policy, outlined in a notice to sellers posted Friday, applies both to new listings and existing ones. eBay says it is in the process of removing current listings for these items as well as listings that mention the coronavirus, COVID-19 (the illness it causes), and other popular variations of the phrases like 2019nCoV.
Since the coronavirus outbreak began spreading worldwide in late January, prices for health items that could help prevent the spread of the virus have seen shocking jumps, especially on websites like Amazon and eBay that allow third-party sellers to list their own products and sell them. In this case, some wholesale resellers or sellers who just happen to have inventory that includes hand sanitizer and certain face masks, like the popular 3M-produced N95 respirator mask, have begun jacking up prices. In many US states, this may be in violation of price gouging laws.

Amazon, too? They’re 3rd party suppliers are doing the same.
This is one of the reasons store shelves are being emptied of these items. People buy them in large quantities, thinking they can make a killing on ebay or Amazon.
Better that people who want these items not have them than they pay too much. You gotta wonder about the idiots running Ebay. As a shareholder in various companies, it annoys me that any publicly-traded company is allowed to virtue-signal like this at the expense of its shareholders. Major shareholders should convene a meeting of the BOD to evict moron CEO’s like this.

Hey! Havent you heard the news? These N95 respirators dont work. And, besides, theyre all needed for use by medical providers who may be exposed to the deadly Corona virus.

Great, now everyone equally sick!
Thank you for saving me from myself eBay.
These decisions are so hard to make on my own.
I was at Walmart late Wednesday night. And they were stocking one small box of hydrogen peroxide. A lady comes up and goes oh goody, how much is it? Stock girl says $2.50 Lady fills up her cart with 10 large bottles.
I think some is due to stupid US State laws? Possibly pressure also from the Feds?
This has to be a dictate from the CDC that they are complying with. It is their opinion the public should not be buying those items. Who says the CDC isn’t on top of things?!
Why should Ebay care? If I want to pay $100 for a bottle of hand sanitizer from a somebody listing on Ebay, how can that be gouging?
This is the same site that lists discontinued bars of Palmolive Gold soap for thirty-five bucks apiece.

Because they don’t work, of course!
There will be an increase in clothing sales after all these people ruin theirs haphazardly using all the bleach they bought.
You know, I didnt see THAT much gouging for hand sanitizer.
Some of the listings were for 5 bottles for basically retail pricing when you average them out. Many weren’t even selling.
Yep. In a lot of places when a state of emergency is declared the price gouging law goes into effect.
Not a problem...
I’ll just sell a bag of jellybeans and throw in a free squirt-bottle of hand sanitizer.
Oh, the price? The 16oz jellybeans are $49.99...but you get free shipping.
