Newt Gingrich: The Biden-Sanders dilemma the Democratic Party now faces
Fox News ^ | March 6, 2020 | Newt Gingrich

One week ago, no one expected the current race for the Democratic nomination.

Remember this the next time you see or hear one of us so-called experts on television or radio confidently predicting a future we don’t understand.

With the backdrop of the emerging coronavirus threat, the wild swings in the stock market, the signing of an Afghanistan peace plan, the Chuck Schumer attack on Supreme Court justices, here is what happened in seven short days.

Former Vice President Joe Biden went from being almost out of the race to being the front runner and probable nominee.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., went from being the strong front runner and probable nominee – who was going to sweep Super Tuesday – to being a battered and isolated challenger underdog who may not have a path to the nomination.

Former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg went from being a media darling, to having an incredibly weak showing in South Carolina, to withdrawing and endorsing Biden.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., got remarkably few votes in South Carolina and faced a devastating series of defeats on Tuesday. So, she withdrew, endorsed Biden, and flew to Texas to join him on stage at a rally on the evening before the state’s primary.

Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, after spending more than $550 million, figured out his debate disasters had wiped out the positive effect of his advertising and withdrew, also throwing his support to Biden.

Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-Texas, emerged from obscurity to endorse Biden before the Texas primary and locked Biden into an anti-gun (potentially gun confiscation) position.

Mitt Romney has a better chance as the Democrat candidate

This was really dumb. Didn't need Francis to carry TX.

Mark my words, if Biden wins, the party will get Michelle Obama as his running mate.

It wouldn’t surprise me and I don’t believe she really wants it though I’d bet Barack is doing everything he can to make her believe she does.

But it could be a winning combination for all the Obama followers. They know Biden is not going to last 4 years, might even step down for health reasons, then we get Obama for rest of his term know he will be the one pulling the levers.

The democrats are a mess right now. A real mess. They have a major electoral college problem as the frontrunner they pushed and propelled to victory on Tuesday (Biden) has lurched very far to the left, appears to lack stamina and cognitive function, has a laundry list 5 decades long of positions and statements he will apologize for, and is surrounded by the stench of corruption with his son. On top of that, Biden is simply not a good retail politician. People “like” him, but have never taken him seriously so when the media and shills stop propping him up he will fall over.

They also have the Bernie problem, which they cannot solve.

Trump has to be feeling pretty good about life right now and he was right last night to start talking about taking the house back in the fall. That would be monumental as most of the never Trump GOPe quit in 2018 so the Freedom Caucus is positioned to run the house MAGA style.

That might be the plan. And then have Biden step down after two weeks, thus giving the Obama’s a potential 11 year term...(the rest of Joe’s and 2 full terms). Joe Biden appears to be near legally mentis incompetentem declaret, and it wouldn’t be that big of stretch (especially if that was part of the plan to begin with).

You are right. But can you imagine the Democrats nominating Mitt Romney?

Was thinking the same. Biden’s dementia is the elephant in the room, and Newt just ignores it? God bless, Newt. I’m a fan, but this piece added precisely zero interesting to the conversation.

This is my concern too. It's so obvious that Biden is just a short hop away from full-blown dementia, so they have something in mind. And it has to happen before or during the convention, because they can't afford to put Biden up against President Trump one on one. It's going to be a very interesting year.

Yes it is. 4 more years of Trump will destroy the democrat party and they know it, they will try anything.
