JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon is recovering from emergency heart surgery the company disclosed Thursday evening. Co-Presidents and Chief Operating Officers Daniel Pinto and Gordon Smith released a statement to employees and shareholders:
"We want to let you know that Jamie experienced an acute aortic dissection this morning. He underwent successful emergency heart surgery to repair the dissection. The good news is that it was caught early and the surgery was successful. He is awake, alert and recovering well.
Our Lead Director, Lee Raymond, said today, Our Board has been fully briefed on these developments and has asked Daniel and Gordon to lead the company during this period, as Jamie recuperates. We have exceptional leaders across our businesses and functions led by our outstanding CEO and Co-Presidents. Our company will move forward together with confidence as we continue to serve our customers, clients, communities and shareholders.
Well, a spike in BP can certainly be associated with an Aortic dissection.
I know what its like to have open heart surgery. Its brutal but it can also save your life.
Let’s send him a gift basket from Wuhan?
Anything derived from petroleum products used.
He has a heart?
I just knew that wouldnt take long.
About 20% of patients with aortic dissection die before reaching the hospital. Hospital mortality rate for treated patients is about 30% for proximal dissection and 10% for distal.
From his Wiki page:
Dimon donates primarily to the Democratic Party. In May 2012, he described himself as “barely a Democrat”stating,
I’ve gotten disturbed at some of the Democrats’ anti-business behavior, the attacks on work ethic and successful people. I think it’s very counterproductive. ... It doesn’t mean I don’t have their values. I want jobs. I want a more equitable society. I don’t mind paying higher taxes. ... I do think we’re our brother’s keeper but I think that attacking that which creates all things, is not the right way to go about it.
“I know what its like to have open heart surgery. Its brutal but it can also save your life.
same here ... brutal recovery but life-saving ...
Lucky to be alive.
Been there, done that in 2013. 16 hour surgery after mine ruptured so I wish the gentleman well.
My dad didn’t make it in 1997 even though just 1 mile from hospital.
I’m 73. A chest X-RAY last summer showed a calcified aorta, so I started taking vitamin K2 and D3.
I had the CAC scan last week. The widowmaker artery has 6% calcium, the other three are 0%.
I gave them the CD of my X-RAY, and asked if they could correlate that with the CAC scan, to see if it had improved, but it was not in the report.
As to calcium, it was contributor to the aneurysm. Follow-up found defective parathyroids. Removal of course did not reverse my calcifications, but did reduce my incidence of kidney stones.
Prayers for Mr. Dimon.
Maybe a good Friday rally will cheer his spirits!
What dosage of D3 and K, please? How often?
I have an aortic root aneurysm so have this to look forward to. Not at the point for elective surgery to correct it, but getting there. I don’t smoke. Eat healthy. Do all the “right” things... and yet I still have this at 50 (was diagnosed at 46)
Please proofread your tagline.
I had aneurysms with blood-clots on my abdominal aorta.
They replaced the “upside down Y” in my belly with a plastic one.
In and out in 4 days.
