When buying ammo for storage, make sure you get the milspec stuff with sealed bullets and primers. That stuff will easily last 50 years in a good storage environment. You’re likely going to have to buy this ammo online. Put it in sealed ammo cans to be sure and store in a stable dry environment. I’ve seen the off the shelf Walmart type stuff go bad after a few months. And, if you have a .308win rifle, buy .308win ammo and not 7.62x51 and vice-versa. Same goes for .223 and 5.56x45.

Enough so you don’t have to consider if it is enough.

I also don’t expect any disasters to turn into daily shootouts at the OK Corral. People watch too much Mad Max and Walking Dead.

Valid point. But if we look around the world and at recent history, it is unwise to go on the assumption that the US is somehow so special it is immune to what has occurred at various times all over the world.

People can be capable of real barbarism and I don't believe that *many* Americans have evolved past that. Lot of ferals out there.

I still believe we are going to muddle through it, though with much suffering along the way. Still, for relatively little money or effort, why not hedge one's bets? I lived in Florida during Andrew and there were some people in South FL that were very glad they had firearms and food in the aftermath.

Yeah. I think that might whittle down the challengers to the more mwntally unstable. If you could patch me into your security cams so I can witness any eventual situations, that might make for good TV. ;) LOL!

Sounds like a need to set up defensive local government.

I do remember fort Riley back in the 90s. My friends had some privately owned firearms in the company armory. I kept mine off post. You could be right about being invited to join the party.

I suspect if “things get completely out of hand” that even at my advanced age, that I’ll be back in uniform (either for the USA, a county LE agency or the TSG) for the duration of the emergency plus 6 months & wearing a gun/badge again.

I truly fear that WHEN (rather than IF) DJT is reelected that we are going to have a HORRID mess with assorted groups of lunatics/criminals/domestic terrorists doing a whole manner of evil things.
(I truly HOPE that I’m 100% wrong but believe that I am more likely correct.)

Yours, TMN78247

Oh, I don’t make any assumptions that people can’t devolve into barbarians. I just think that however bad it gets, there will very few situations where you are better off shooting people than avoiding them. That doesn’t mean I’m not prepared.

I sold my last boat a couple of years ago when I got rid of a house I had in Wisconsin. I thought that I was OK but this spring I've started to see boat brochures showing up on my desk.

I'd always agreed with the definition of a "boat" as...

"a hole in the water into which you throw money"

If you are finding yourself in high volume firefights, you are not going to survive very long, no matter how much of a badass you think you are.

If the firefight lasts more than two minutes, your odds of becoming a casualty increase exponentially. The curve becomes nearly vertical.

The trick is to avoid having to shoot at people or being shot at.

Amen. If you do have to engage you want the advantages of surprise, shock, speed, mobility, and firepower. Never forget that precision fire usually beats mass fire.

If things get that bad I’ll be heading to the Mississippi river..with my slingshot.. praying God will intervene and whip evil with his holy love lasers.

20,000 rounds of .22, 10,000 rounds of 5.56 and 10,000 rounds of 9mm or whatever your choice of pistol round is a good start.

Maybe if you just won the lottery. That stuff ain't cheap to just go stock up on overnight!
