Chris Matthews didnt get fired for being a sex monster. He got fired for doing his job.
And what was that job? To represent the non-crazy, No Kool-Aid for me, thanks Left on television, while being entertaining and pointed and wacky. Read the GQ piece published Friday that apparently got Matthews fired and youll note that the writer, Laura Bassett, had two completely unrelated categories of complaint that she artfully weaved together to create an indictment of Matthews as a sexist.
One complaint was that Matthews would compliment womens looks. He said of Sarah Palin that there was something electric and very attractive about her. He told Erin Burnett, Youre a knockout. All true. He made a couple of mild compliments to Bassett: Why havent I fallen in love with you yet? True, men shouldnt talk this way around the office, and few guys under 50 have failed to get the message that this kind of thing makes (some) women uncomfortable. But Matthews is 70. Old guys flirt with young women as a way of telling themselves theyre still in the game. Young women used to be more forgiving, to recognize the pathos underlying the impulse and shrug it off. Now they exaggerate their emotional reaction, pretend that theyre shaken or couldnt breathe. Bassett writes that a couple of flirty comments from Matthews undermined my ability to do my job well. Thats hard to believe.

They love a little attention as do I. Nothing sexual although there is always that undercurrent.
My wife of 30 years takes this old war horse for granted and I have found that the girls have husbands that have forgotten to compliment them.
Being a Southern boy, my mom always taught me, under pain of a spanking, to notice and compliment on a new hair doo, piece of jewelry or if they really got dressed for no reason but to present a pleasing image. At first a lot of the girls (all about 20 years younger thought this was a bit quant but now they love the attention. Oh, I also like the attention back, especially the sparkling eyes and smiles. Oh to be 20 years younger and single. Life is good.
I figured it was largely whether they were just paying a complement, or paying a compliment in pursuit.
He was doing this for many years and knew all the people by their first name on his stops.
He would always compliment the ladies on their new hair do, sometimes when they looked atrocious.
I'm not kidding, you'd have someone like this gal, and he'd say, "Helen, what a gorgeous new hair do." and she'd just beam...
We'd walk to the car, and I'd say, "Dad, that ladies hair looks like crap." and he'd say, "Yeah, I know, but she doesn't think so."

I try to only recognize when it is truly warranted . . when I was little women still wore dresses and worked hard on their hair and makeup before going to the market or to get the kids. A different world.
MY mom drove home the point that the girls put a lot of effort into looking nice. She also pointed out that if you wife puts out the effort and you haven't got the decency to compliment her for the effort you might spend the night on the couch. Took a few years before I figured out why sleep on the couch with the TV nearby was such a bad deal. Call me naive.
#20 Does not always work to be nice. Some do not like it.
I said to a women “Maam”.
Boy was she upset, she said calling her maam was saying she was old.
You charmer, you.. (wink)
I recall women wearing gloves when they’d go out...
I enjoy a woman who is not afraid to express her feminine side. I notice they seem to get all the attention from the eligible guys. Maybe I should get some money from the government and do some research!!
In my experience as a woman, there are flatterers and there are leerers. You can flatter me all day and I’ll take it with a grain of salt and ample appreciation. Leer at me and I’ll assume you’re a perv with no respect for women.
When a man is a gentleman to me, like holding the door open, I always thank him clearly. To hopefully encourage him to keep being a gentleman.
What I've discovered, is that the older I get, the more attractive the older women get also, while the young women look like children.
AMEN!
Yes maam :)
He wasn’t fired, he “resigned to spend more time with family”. And Dr. Drew Pinsky wasn’t fired from his HLN show for complaining about Hillary Clinton’s quack doctors that weren’t doing anything for her during the 2016 campaign. (Drew was right but I’m sure Hillary’s selection of doctor was based on his willingness to give her the pills that she likes.)
Yeah, Matthews was starting to wise up. I remarked to my wife last week, “I’m starting to agree with Chris Matthews, this is as big a surprise as Kanye West.” Not that I’m about to start talking good about the guy, I think that he was planning on retiring soon and getting sick of being a stupid liberal media front to their idiot politicians. If I was his age (article is wrong, he’s 74) with his money, the last thing I’d be doing is putting on a tie and going to work everyday.
LOL!
[hey...wait...that’s not saying much! he’d hit a woodpile if he thought a snake was in it]
:D
Yeah, my wife gives me grief over doing that.
