AOC and Bernie Sanders's ‘Green New Deal’ could cost your family $70,000
Washington Examiner ^ | February 29, 2020 | Brad Polumbo

Upstart socialist darling Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made her name in part with a signature policy package dubbed the “Green New Deal.” With an initial draft promising everything from free healthcare for all to eliminating cow farts, the version that Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ed Markey eventually introduced was only slightly less ridiculous.

Don't forget, this resolution was co-sponsored by 2020 front-runner Sen. Bernie Sanders. He might regret that now: A new study just found that the “Green New Deal” would cost families in several swing states dearly.

The report from the fiscally conservative Competitive Enterprise Institute analyzed 11 different states and concluded that the Green New Deal would cost the average family in these states almost $75,000 in its first year and over $40,000 annually in future years. And get this: The report only analyzed increased energy costs from transforming to a “green” economy — so it doesn’t even include all the tax hikes families would face from the unrelated welfare expansions promised in the resolution, such as socialized healthcare for all.

How did CEI come up with these figures? Analysts looked at the Green New Deal’s promise to transition pretty much the entire economy away from fossil fuels and onto renewable energy sources, regardless of efficiency, and calculated how much that would cost.

Turns out, reorganizing an entire economy through government force wouldn’t be cheap. Who knew?

“The Green New Deal is an unserious proposal that is at best negligent in its anticipation of transition costs and at worst a politically motivated policy whose creativity is outweighed by its enormous potential for economic destruction,” the Competitive Enterprise Institute analysis concluded.

And guess what? Sanders owns this woeful policy disaster. He co-sponsored it.

Where do they think the $70,000 will come from?

For many households, that is over 100% of net income, after taxes but before any living expenses.

I guess we’ll all just end up homeless?

It won’t be costing my family anything. I would join millions in Civil Disobedience against their draconian measures of totalitarian socialism.

Not only would this version of the “Green New Deal” cost $70,000 for each family, it would also cause loss of all sense of worth and self-esteem.

Being marched into a “re-education camp” might RAISE their morale. After all, “freedom” is just another term for “nothing left to lose”.

I wish I could say that last observation was sarcastic.

What the hell is this insanity? Just what are they trying to push with this crap? Is there some super genius somewhere in a basement selling a car engine that runs on cold fusion and he wants $36 trillion for it?

[[[Where do they think the $70,000 will come from?]]]]

The same place the 15 dollar minimum wage money comes from.

I don’t have $70,000 so I guess they’ll have to just take it from the rich people. Am I right?

The key quote: “The report only analyzed increased energy costs from transforming to a “green” economy — so it doesn’t even include all the tax hikes”.

The $70K in the headline doesn’t even include taxes. Yikes.

“I guess we’ll all just end up homeless?”

If the country is taken over by idiots like AOC we will most assuredly end up homeless and starving. It is really pointless to calculate the cost of such insanity as the green new disaster because it could never actually be accomplished. We would be fighting over the last remaining rats for supper and the idiot left would be blaming it all on Trump as they dropped from starvation. When I was a boy I was taken to see a distant relative who was confined in a mental institution of the sort that have since been closed. I say with certainty that many of the people who were confined there were much more sane than AOC or Bernie Sanders.

But most of us will get at least 3000 in benefits so according to new math it will all be worth it.

It all costs more than that I think. Among the dreams that Sanders presents as plans are:

Guaranteed universal full-day, full-week pre-kindergarten education funded in full by the federal government for every child to regardless of income, starting at age 3.

Double the number of early childhood educators in this country to more than 2.6 million.

Invest $10 billion to create and expand HBCU (historically black colleges and universities) medical, dental, and teacher training graduate programs.

Invest $5 billion in HBCU infrastructure grants and cancel all institutional HBCU loan debt from the Capital Financing Program.

Set the starting salary for teachers at no less than $60,000.

Spend $50 billion over the next decade to substantially expand access to summer and after-school programs, teen centers and tutoring.

Provide year-round, free universal school meals.

Ensure that the federal government provides at least 50 percent of the funding for special education.

Rebuild, modernize, and green our nation’s schools.

Provide funding for union training fund programs to help early care and learning professionals, with strong protections for unionizing, etc. regardless of immigration status.

Guarantee tuition and debt-free public colleges, universities, HBCUs, Minority Serving Institutions and trade-schools for all.

Cancel all student loan debt for the some 45 million Americans who owe about $1.6 trillion.

Debt cancellation: Eliminate all of the $81 billion in past-due medical debt held by 79 million Americans.

Expand Social Security benefits for all recipients. Quadruple funding for the Older Americans Act and expanding other programs seniors rely on.

provide $200 billion to the Green Climate Fund.

Invest $5 billion in high-quality teacher preparation programs at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Minority Serving Institutions of higher education (MSIs), and Tribal Colleges.

Housing for all: Invest $2.5 trillion to build nearly 10 million permanently affordable housing units.

Investing $70 billion to repair, decarbonize, and build new public housing.

Make Section 8 vouchers available to all eligible families.

Double Title III and Title V funds.

Medicare for All: single-payer, national health insurance program to provide everyone in America with comprehensive health care coverage, free at the point of service, including home and community-based long-term care, in-patient and out-patient services, mental health and substance abuse treatment, reproductive and maternity care, prescription drugs, dental, hearing, vision, and home. And more.

Eliminate all of the $81 billion in past-due medical debt held by 79 million Americans.

Provide $150 billion through the Green New Deal in infrastructure grants and technical assistance for municipalities and/or states to build publicly owned and democratically controlled, co-operative, or open access broadband networks.

I don’t think it can be quantified.

Assuming it’s enacted as envisioned it will break western capitalism at its core.

I don’t think you can quantify in advance the loss from that.

Well that IS embarrassing. Posting from your phone with the manifest evil that is auto-fill can make you seem insane. I do wish Jim would add the ability to go back and edit ones posts.
