TALLAHASSEE Two people from Hillsborough and Manatee counties are the first to test positive for coronavirus in Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Sunday night.
The Hillsborough County adult had a travel history to Italy, which on Saturday became the third country to have more than 1,000 confirmed coronavirus cases, prompting the U.S. State Department to warn travelers from traveling there.
The other patient is an adult Manatee County resident without a history of travel to restricted countries such as China or Iran, according to the Florida Department of Health.
The patient sought out care and is helping state officials identify close contacts and health care workers who might have been exposed and showing symptoms.

The first confirmed cases of the flu-like virus prompted DeSantis to direct the state surgeon general, Scott Rivkees, to declare a public health emergency. Despite the confirmations, "the overall immediate threat to the public remains low, the Florida Department of Health said in a statement.

I surely hope it wasn’t the person hacking and coughing behind me at the ballpark this afternoon.
Our local news said that the two patients in Florida were men in their 60s. The one that travelled had been to Italy, France, and Spain. He works at a school but has not been to work since his trip. I guess thats the good news.
This is getting Series but not Hugh so far.
Predictable. USA was not testing or testing was incomplete, compared to say Italy or South Korea.
Expect these numbers to increase, but not exponentially.
Oh, the not-quite-Hugh Manatee!
LOL
I have a respiratory infection right now.
I’ve been downplaying this whole thing all along.
Even mocking some who seem so worried.
But boy did my mind go STRAIGHT to the coronavirus as being what I have! :)
Not one of a million viruses or sore throats that people get this time of year.
I work overnights in an office of 6, don’t venture out much.
But I’ve got it!!! :)
The human mind is hysterical.
I could see when I worked in an office of thousands at Rockefeller Plaza in Manhattan.
But a small building on Forest Avenue on Staten Island?
Probably not :)
I think they are saving most of the bad news for tomorrows stock market.
I’m trying to figure out how many bags of cat litter I will need.
Yep.
Just like in the northwest all the stores are running out of stuff like sanitizers and oddly enough toilet paper. How TP is going to protect you from coronavirus, I don’t know. But people are stocking up on it even more than food or medicines.

Why not exponentially? China had the amount we have in mid-January. They now have (so they say) 80,000.
The media will scare the retires .
We're grateful that you break FR bread with us here day after day.
Keep drinking plenty of fluids and try to get some rest. :)
Yep...the lying media will want the retirees to panic and vote Biden...or, Hildebeast...since she headed up the (FAILED) Clinton Health care/or universal healthcare proposal.
Seriously, Florida is home to Spring Training baseball for the next several weeks. Come hell or high water, influenza or coronavirus, folks who paid for their getaway to the Sunshine State are going to attend the games. I was annoyed enough with the wet sputtering and coughing behind me to leave the game early. Disgusting.

And then there is Disney World... Even the flu spreads in that place faster than a schoolyard. Coronavirus will have a field day. And no one is going to cancel their overpriced vacation for a cough and sneeze.
