The coronavirus is disrupting Disney (DIS) and its upcoming slate of blockbusters.
The media giant spent a reported $200 million on its live-action remake of Mulan the priciest live-action film for the company. But its box office performance is now unclear, as its intended March 27th release date has been postponed in China due to the coronavirus.
The film is the latest victim of the outbreak, which is disrupting global demand, supply chains and now movie-watching in the worlds second largest economy.
China can represent a huge percentage of a films international and global box office revenue, so this is going to have an impact on any movie that was slated, Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian told Yahoo Finance.
The upside is that China will release all of these movies down the road, but right now the whole release slate is in flux and there are no hard dates that they can put on these films, he explained.
The uncertainty adds to further risks as Mulan was already a gamble, given its PG-13 rating and all-Asian cast (a first for the the company.)

Is it movies, parks and merchandise?
May not be a good year for them...
Yup....saw the preview at the local theA-ter....completely ridiculous...a girl bravely takes the place of her father who cannot fight in a war where everyone is being conscripted....and she kills the snot out of everyone...by hand weapons and stealth and strength. So believable....well fantasy is dizneys 4tay. No? If you got extra money and time and are interested in fantasy go see the movie.
.... Yikes!!!!! .... This could be an exremely serious mortal blow to those of us who's livelihood actually relies on the success of "Disney's live-action 'Mulan.'"

“Movies, parks and merchandise”
Guess, they’ll have to make do with one out of three —
which I assume Is bad.
There was a Chinese made fantasy movie scheduled to come out that looked good but has been postponed indefinitely. Too bad, not much out there I want to see. If you have not seen Created Equal : Clerance Thomas in his own words, do so. It was a great movie!
Computer virus?
No theaters for me.
I don’t like people moving behind me.
Streaming in 4HD only.
I guess if they just stopped making movies someone would care. Not me.
My heart bleeds for the upper level Disney CEO’s who who spiked the ABC exclusive on Epstein abusing underage girls for 3 years...that all the gay BS they are shoving down our throats in their movies.
It would be terrible if they all got the virus.
Why dont they just delay the release by 6 months?
“Why dont they just delay the release by 6 months?”
One could make an argument that is the right answer.
But I won’t make it.
Just catch the next cookie cutter GRRRRRRLLL power flick off the assembly line if you miss it so much. They’re all pretty much the same.
.
Disney World may have to jack up their ticket price from $200 to $300 per day to compensate..
Every one. The big problem is that if you release it in China 6 months later, everyone has already seen it from Torrents.
