NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - Nashville is hemorrhaging police officers at a time when more are needed than ever before. Thats according to the union president who says the problem has become a major public safety concern.
Even if we were fully staffed today, we would not have enough officers, said fraternal order of police president James Smallwood.
42 officers recently graduated from Nashvilles police academy. In a few months, the graduates will be out on the streets, risking their lives, to keep the city safe.
Im just proud to be doing the job Im going to be doing, said officer Beri Scott.
The problem is, 42 isnt enough, because Nashville is experiencing explosive growth.

By “they” in my above post, I am referring to the unicorns known as “GOOD COPS”.
In Chicago there aren’t enough judges to hear the cases. If you go to traffic court for a routine ticket you have a 100% chance of being found not guilty.
I once sat in a DC Traffic COurt for nearly 8 hours waiting for my case to come it. Never did and I was NOT notified that it the officer was not in court or whether the ticket was nolled.
The next time I got a ticket, I sat for a couple hours, then asked the Clerk of the Court if my name/ticket was on the docket. When he said “No”, I told the DC Corporation Council to take my “docket jacket” and shove it up his ass. Told him I’m not sitting around here all day waiting for an officer who will never show up (it was a bad ticket, only for the money) and who unprofessionally didn’t let us know that the ticket was NOT on the docket.
DC’s tickets are mainly for money. PERIOD. Our police department traffic division (there isn’t one) is totally corrupt, with quota systems still hidden in their work orders.
Crime is also up. example... the number of car-jackings are out of control and have been for awhile.
Metro Police: Statistics show there were 277 carjackings in Nashville in 2018 compared to 261 in 2017.
Chief Steve Anderson needs to GO!
A bill has recently been filed for "permitless" carry.
The concealed carry permit has been lowered from $100 to $65.
Now they're going for carrying WITHOUT a permit of any kind.
But the rest of TN will end up paying through the nose for both.
Memphis can’t recruit or retain officers, since Obama put a target on their backs. Plus it wants a all black police force. Problem with that is 7.5% of the 13% of the population have criminal records. Which will get Expunged under the Justice Reform Stupidity. Having to live with in city limits is another draw back. Bad school, highest crime/murder rate in TENNESSEE. RAPE KITS BACKED UP OVER A DECADE. 2 yrs for a trial...Plea Bargain deal.
Broadway is a mess, probably close to 100 panhandlers, drug addicts and people with mental illness all making a walk on the street unpleasant.
BINGO
I stay clear of the police and will NEVER call them for anything.
Yes, I don’t think “city growth” is the reason they’re losing officers.
Yep.
