‘Zero Regrets’ — Tom Steyer Blew over $252 Million on Failed Campaign

Billionaire Tom Steyer wasted over $252 million on his failed presidential campaign, according to federal election records.

The campaign finance report filed on January 30, showed Steyer spent $252,841,942 on his campaign, according to Open Secrets.

Millions more were likely spent as Steyer continued to advertise in Nevada and South Carolina before calling it quits on February 29.

“Honestly, I can’t see a path where I can win the presidency,” Steyer said on Saturday night, sharing his decision to end his campaign.

Steyer was a self-funding billionaire candidate, as 98 percent of his campaign money came from his own pocket.

He easily overspent other failed presidential candidates. Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) spent over $25 million on her failed presidential campaign and former Congressman Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) spent about $14 million on his attempt to win the presidency. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) wasted over $14 million.

Steyer came in third place in South Carolina with 11.3 percent of the vote and in fifth place in Nevada with 4.7 percent of the vote.

He earned zero delegates.

“This has been a great experience, I have zero regrets,” Steyer said to his supporters on Saturday

It helps the Trump economy. Bloomberg has spent twice as much so far.

That's a nice chunk of change, but it would have cost him half again as much to sign Gerrit Cole to his new contract.

Just to put things into perspective for people who think there's too much money in politics.

Steyer spent a quarter of a billion dollars and barely moved the needle on name recognition. Anyone who runs national advertising campaigns for important things like potato chips or deodorant could have predicted that. This is a perfectly fair comparison since the national news media has essentially defaulted on honest reporting, and since Entertainment Nation doesn't pay attention to the news anyhow.

A quarter of a billion dollars down the sewer. And it was so obviously a losing proposition too. Makes one wonder if he really made his billions investing ( in coal). I sure wouldn’t hire him to manage my portfolio

At least it was his own money. Most politicians spend other peoples money on their campaigns.

Democrats believe their own lies. Yet more proof.

It has been a great experience.

Actually, it was a miserable experience for anyone who had to listen to this self righteous jerk spout his vicious hatred and insanity.

I’m telling you, $252 million could have bought a lot of extra bathrooms at Starbucks.

My thoughts exactly.

Much good could have been done with that amount of money.

Such a shame that a billionaire thinks it’s more important to dominate national politics rather than directly helping those in need.

He aimed too high. He should have started with either a House or Senate seat. Or even a mayoral or statewide campaign in his home state. Once he mastered the basic mechanics of running for office, he could have moved on the presidential level. It would have been a far cheaper lesson. The Donald made it look easy. It isn’t.

“Did Trump even spend $252MM throughout his entire campaign?”

trump self-funded only his own primary, and spent on the order of $66 million of his own money according to the articles i could find ... even there, it looks like $20 million was raised from small donors for the primary campaign ...

might have to economize by buying nearly-expired Beluga caviar from the local bodega instead of having it flown in daily fresh from the Caspian Sea ...

Gosh, could you imagine the effect he might have had if he had spread that quarter billion dollars among candidates that actually have a chance of winning?

Thanks Tom for sucking the air out of Warren and protecting Bernie. I appreciate your efforts.

The dude at the table be like this sh*t is lame, dawg.

That's a keyboard, but otherwise you are correct. Also, Steyer wore that exact same tie to every debate.

The best part is, that’s $250M that can’t be spent promoting someone or some programs that have an actual chance of becoming reality. Steyer could as well have filled a dumpster and lit it off, that would have been epic and probably earned him a million views on YouTube. Prefaced by a Bloomberg commercial, of course.

He probably lost another $100 million in the market meltdown so far ... (BTW - it was evident in January the virus was going to infect/affect the entire world)
