1.4% is still a lot worse than the flu. But I welcome a lower rate. Given that the data is coming from China, I'm taking it with a salt mine of salt.
After the first year or two and a portion of us have immunity, then I'd expect the rate to drop and it might end up being not much worse than the flu. But the issue is THIS YEAR. THIS YEAR it's new to all of us. None of us have immunity unless maybe a coronavirus cold gave us some.
Things that convince me it's worse than the flu.
- Numbers released from China (salt mine)
- Numbers from countries that aren't China (salt block)
- Videos of people dropping dead on the street in China and Iran.
- I've never heard of 1/4th of a cruise ship getting the flu, but you know that there had to be cases of the flu.
- The Chinese doc who said over 10% of the first 91 cases died. Granted it was new, but they had at least some ventilators and ECMO machines.
- The amount of medical people that got sick.
- The Chinese reaction with quarantines, welding people in their apartments, and slapping people without masks. Okay the slapping is just sadistic, and shouldn't weigh on this.
