A top official with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control on Friday challenged Sacramento medical officials who implied they were forced to wait several days before federal authorities tested a symptomatic patient for the coronavirus.
The patient, a woman who has been at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento since Feb. 19, was intubated and has been described as severely ill. She was tested on Sunday, Feb. 23. The medical center disclosed on Wednesday that test results were positive. The discovery forced the medical center to order several employees to stay home this week. Those employees as well have been tested.
The woman, from Solano, has been considered to be the first known case in the U.S. of someone who contracted the virus here without having traveled recently overseas and without having had contact with anyone who recently returned from an international trip. Travis Air Force Base in Solano County was one of the landing spots for American tourists on a cruise ship that suffered an outbreak of coronavirus infections.
In a memo on Wednesday, UC Davis Medical Center officials appeared to point a finger at the CDC for delaying testing the woman. When the patient was admitted to the hospital, the UC Davis team asked public health officials if the case could be coronavirus and requested testing by the CDC, they said. Neither Sacramento County nor California Department of Public Health is doing testing for coronavirus at this time, they noted.

Bet it’s the CDC.
An academic institution lying about a government run by a conservative?
Naaaaahhhhhhh!
This could be an issue of limited resources for testing for this new virus. I spent my entire career in a corporate analytical lab. We were testing product samples, not patient specimens, but still needed to make certain our testing was under statistical process control before starting to releasing test results from unknown specimens. The CDC also reported problems with one of the items in their test kits. These are expected “growing pains”. It takes time and experience to get a reliable workflow for such tests.
The article says she is from “Solano”. Travis AFB is in Solano County and there is a town named Solano City just east of Travis AFB on Hwy 12. They have stated that she has not had contact with anyone quarantined at Travis but we don’t know if she works there or has occasion to go on base. There may be info that we don’t yet know.
QUICKLY? They’ve been holding up the works for over a month now. They threw out Hawaii tests.

Yes, and I’ve heard there were Coronavirus patients at the Davis facility prior to her going there.
Excessive dependence on best evidence medical practice driven by algorithms, flow charts and statistics will be the end of the Medical Arts that created the golden age of medicine.
Human knowledge and examinations and human analysis and judgement are necessary for diagnosis and treatment. No formula will suffice.
Concur. “Garbage in, Garbage out” — and the input to AI algorithms (as well as the internals) can be modified due to politics.
First gen lab tests.. loaded with false pos, false neg and interfering substances. Better to force the lab who created it in China to give up its genetic secrets.
A funny this happened on the way to documenting Coronavirus information over
the last 48 hours.
14 new nations popped up with 1 case. If you go out to 72 hours you can pick
up about five more.
All of a sudden, it’s as if someone is beating the bushes to bump up the numbers
of nations with this virus.
Over a month into this, and these 14-19 nations all found their first case in
a 48 to 72 hour window.
That looks odd to me.
yep
You ain’t seen nothing yet. South Korea getting close to 1,000 new cases a day. They are the size of one US state.
About five days ago I predicted they’d have 10,000 by the 3rd or 4th of March.

Once the ‘govt’ starts PAYING for ‘fighting and stemming’ the problem, the numbers will climb astronomically. Count on it!!
All this coronavirus crap is starting to get utterly ridiculous
The bottom line is its best just to tune it out and ignore it
Theres plenty of other viruses out there in the garden variety ones that cause pneumonia bronchitis and Ill kinds of other respiratory ailments which are much more fierce than this little bug
And all the authorities will admit as much
But now its a giant worldwide story and theyve created this monster and now they dont really know what to do with this monster
But guess what spring is coming and then summer and this thing will just fade
