New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, who admires what a single-party autocracy such as China's can accomplish when it is "led by a reasonably enlightened group of people," praised that country's "one child" policy in a 2008 book, saying it "probably saved China from a population calamity."
In the Amazon Prime Video documentary One Child Nation, the Chinese-American filmmaker Nanfu Wang lays bare the brutal reality of the oppressive regime that was so glibly endorsed by rich Westerners who take their own reproductive freedom for granted. She shows that the one-child policy, in force from 1979 to 2015, routinely relied on extortion, assault, kidnapping, and infanticide.
Returning to the farming village in Jiangxi province where she was born and raised, Wang talks to an uncle and an aunt who mournfully remember the infant daughters they felt compelled to abandon. Wang's grandfather says he had to dissuade local officials from sterilizing her mother after Wang was born.
One of those village leaders tells Wang "the one-child policy was very difficult to implement" because "people resisted." If they couldn't be persuaded by propaganda, they would be punished by confiscation of their possessions or demolition of their homes. Recalcitrant women were physically forced to undergo sterilization. "It was really fucked up," the former official says. "We below didn't want to do this, but we had no choice."
A local midwife estimates that she performed 50,000 to 60,000 sterilizations and abortions. "Many I induced alive and killed," she says. "My hand trembled doing it."
A former family planning official recalls that "sometimes pregnant women tried to run away" from forced abortions, often performed at eight or nine months, and "we had to chase after them." Unlike the midwife, she is proud of her work, agreeing with Thomas Friedman that "the policy was absolutely correct."
Bernie never met a regime or dictator he didn’t like.
Makes me have less doubt that they are killing sick patients in Wuhan.
Nobody confronted Bernie and asked why it mattered if a dictator achieved anything. “He built the Autobahn...”
They also haven’t asked him yet directly about Karl Marx and his being a Trotskyite.
This showed how little the Chinese value human life. Exactly why I believe the stories of people sick but still alive being carted off to the incinerators in Wuhan.
Or is it true he lived with his parents until he was in his 30s. Or was his first job was mayor of a small town. Or if he honeymooned in Russia. Or what was the source of his 600,000 dollars cash to buy a lake cottage (everyone has one) immediately after he bowed out to Hillary.
Killing of patients would affect the overall death toll.
Coronavirus may in fact turn out to be not much more than a somewhat supercharged version of the common cold, with higher mortality rates, perhaps, but like the common cold, a gateway to various kinds of pneumonia, which can and does kill.
The Chinese may be vastly underreporting the numbers already afflicted with the coronavirus, too.
The various mutated versions of the influenza virus are probably much more deadly.
I can’t show any verifiable facts, but I strongly believe China routinely kills elderly and disabled. If they are a burden to the party and a severe cost they are silently removed.
The current method of choice to buy politicians is that they "write" a "book". It becomes a "bestseller", (Actually a Soros type buys 2 million copies, stashes them in a container until they can be quietly recycled.)
The New York Times Book Review pumps it as "genius", Amazon has a troll write 200+ 4 and 5 star "reviews", that actually brag about how Bernie's magic words have made a former Christian see the light, and Presto! Bernie becomes a top ranked author, and gets massive royalty checks. Any time Soros, et al, wants to pay off Bernie, he just puts in an order for another printing.
It's a nice, legal way to launder bribes. According to Amazon, Bernie's been bribed 4 times, so far.
For years there have been rumors of a 100 million man Chinese People’s Bachelor Army, made up of single men with little hope of finding a wife, because of the high mortality rate of girl babies during the One Child policy era.
They keep up morale with hopes that China will one day occupy eastern Siberia and desperate CPBA soldiers will at last find a spouse among the Russian population.
Great post; comments BUMP!
We’re all gone in just over 10+ years anyway. Redda could be cheerleader. Give her some red pom poms

They'll never match up to Rush's All American First Cavalry Amazon Battalion!
Forced abortions: Every Democrat’s craving.
The coronavirus-—I hope it is retribution for the horrors China has inflicted on its own people, on animals, and on other countries. Let it take them all, the filthy swine.
Ah, the joys of communism and fascism. If there's much of a difference, please explain it to me.
“led by a reasonably enlightened group of people,”
You mean the enlightened people who kill babies and the elderly (anyone over 65? 70?)?
After they dumb half or more of the people down. and then cut them off from basic medicine, food and even proper hygiene products.
And the poorer citizens have to eat rats and bugs.
Meanwhile the enlightened people have food rotting in storage because they can’t eat it all.
"So, I think that right now they're doing what they have to do. I don't agree with the forced abortion, but I don't think the United States needs to interfere with what they're doing internally in this regard."
"But in effect, won't your critics on the right be saying that Pat Robertson is justifying abortions in China?" he asked.
"Well, I just think they need to get involved in what's happening," Robertson replied.
OK, there was mass murder and forced sterilization, but Bernie supporters want to know, what is their literacy rate?
