A student living in a dormitory at UC Davis has shown mild symptoms of coronavirus and has been placed in isolation, along with two other students living in the dorm, Yolo County and university officials said Thursday.
The student has a runny nose and a cough after potentially being exposed to someone with coronavirus, officials said. The individual is in isolation at a home off campus. The two other individuals in isolation are the students roommates and are not showing signs of the virus.
Officials declined to say whether the three are in isolation in Davis. They are isolating out of an abundance of caution, according to a university press release. The Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta is testing the students specimen for the virus and results are expected back in three to four days.

I have a feeling the phrase “out of an abundance of caution” is going to be heard a lot in the near future.
Sounds like they need to be transferred to a SF house next door to Pelosi.
Count on it.
It will drive all sorts of crazy behavior.
I’m getting more and more torn between saying folks are overreacting and maybe..just maybe..this could get a little ugly.
But has ANYONE in the US died? I think one?
THAT’S the only reason I’ve not jumped from the “this might get a little bad but not really” to “this might get freaking bad”
A lot of recoveries going on at home and not even in the hospital.
I just don’t know.
I DO KNOW that many companies are cancelling business trips across the BOARD.
I’ve not seen that in my 30 plus years of working in NYC
Hell, as soon as possible after 9/11, people were flying again.
And I was working in Rock Plaza 2 days later.
Took 4 hours to get there and a lot of trouble, but I was a beast then.
Now i’m more of a roast pig than a beast :)
Guess who else is ‘showing mild symptoms’ of an (as yet) unnamed illness? That’s right. The Pope.
Pope Francis skipped a planned Mass on Thursday due to illness. The pontiff was seen coughing and blowing his nose during the Ash Wednesday Mass. Vatican officials have refused to comment on if the Pope has been tested for Coronavirus.”
The Telegraph.
The thoughts flying around in my head right now would cost me at least 10 Hail Mary’s as penance, were I to attend Confessional.
No US deaths to date.
Lots of Communist Chinese who went home for CNY and semester break.
Way back in early December, the Communist Chinese leadership were screaming racism and xenophobia when countries threatened banned flights (and countries took a long time the actually ban flights)
Is this a story about the same case? There’s no mention of the patient being a student or any other detail about the individual, but it is in regards to Davis, CA.
First U.S. Case Of Community Spread Coronavirus Confirmed
https://www.oann.com/first-u-s-case-of-coronavirus-community-spread-confirmed/
And the first person had it a while ago now.
What does that mean?
Is our treatment so superior?
Is it just true that non asians are less susceptible to the worst parts of the illness? Namely the lung ravages?
I dunno
It’s not bad here, in the U.S., yet, but stocking up on some routine things might be a good idea for the purpose of avoiding being out and about much with sick folks at times. ...just food, toiletries, etc. The power, water and treatment plants will continue to run just fine—*not* “as seen on TV.” ;)
That is likely the person these students were exposed to.
Nursing. Candy stripers.
“The Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta is testing the students specimen for the virus and results are expected back in three to four days.”
2hen you have to send samples from 5he University of California Davis to Atlanta to be tested and wait 4 or 5 days for results that’s a problem.
fyi
Only 200 unreliable test kits in the entire state.
Cannot be used unless the CDC criteria is met: Pneumonia. Travel to China. Contact with a known positive.
Friggin’ CDC...
So you don’t think there is a real threat?
