The 17 state colleges and universities have been directed to immediately suspend or cancel institutionally-sponsored travel to several countries due to concerns about coronavirus.
... An announcement sent to the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities community on Thursday says that all colleges and universities must immediately suspend or cancel institutionally-sponsored travel to countries designated Level 3 (warning) and Level 2 (watch) by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention out of an abundance of caution. ...

Here’s an easier way to block trips to countries that are a high risk area. If the US government is blocking flights from a country into the USA, we can’t go to that country. Didn’t waste too many brain cells on that one.
If the threat of this plague stalls elites flying to and fro on private jets to lecture us about man made climate change it will be a good thing.
Spring break is just around the corner.
Along with chlamydia and gonorrhea college students will be cross pollinating themselves with COVID-19.
I teach at a CT state college. Got an email this morning that the state is all ready preparing for online classes to replace in-person ones.
That said, my brother-in-law and his wife are coming to visit us here in central Texas near the end of March. They haven't seen us since we moved from California in October 2018. They are flying from the Bay Area either from SFO or SJC. I'm a little concerned about this, especially if cases of the Coronavirus increase in the Bay Area.
Worse than that is my brother-in-law's wife flew to Canada last week to attend the funeral of a family member who had just passed away. I am not sure how long she will be there, but that would seem to increase, however slightly, her chances of being exposed to someone carrying the virus with the increased air travel at this time.
If she caught anything flying to Canada, you’ll know by the end of March.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see them change their plans. A lot can happen by the end of March. I’d bet that they won’t want to fly by then.
And airlines are starting to forgive penalties for cancellations and changes due to coronavirus.
Almost in panic mode. The news media lives by scaring people.
In perspective: the flu kills 80,000 people in a year. No panic. Car accidents kill 30,000 a year. No panic. Is the public stupid, or what?

Geez, why don’t the Leftists just put a 10-foot tall chain link fence around all roads leading out of the state and close down the air and sea ports? This way they can make sure that nobody comes in to possibly contaminate them.
My niece just returned from a week in Japan, posting photos of herself and her two kids there (9 and 23), sans masks. When one of her friends asked why they weren’t wearing masks, she responded that she’s “not paranoid like everyone else!” Smart kid, that one!
Talked to my retired doctor this morning. He and I got to be good friends and all that.
Ask him about this and he laughed. Said the biggest killer in this thing will be the mass hysteria and the panic it creates.
My guess it will ply havoc on the supply chain.
Much more work to teach online, or else I might enjoy a few days off.
.
Online classes will demonstrate how effective they can be for much of what happens in college. Certainly the large lecture hall type class can be done online. If online gets widespread it will probably hasten the demise of the four year live-on-campus lots-of-partying experience that results in huge debt for so many students. Some classes require labs or discussions that need to be done on campuses but not all classes do.
I teach online and in-person courses. Online requires much more time for explanation and requires a more dedicated student.
Online courses are not for the non-serious student because the student has to teach themselves more than an in-person course.
