If you are a high income earner or own a business in California, it is time to start planning your move to a different state. Past time.

No taxpayer money went into funding for Stockton’s basic income program.

Huh? Then where did it come from?

Nevada’s going to love this. California taxes the hell out of everyone and drive all the business out with a 10% VAT, and then they all head to Vegas or Reno to blow their $1,000 per month free gambling money.

The flood of taxpayers heading out of CA will increase. Then who’ll be paying for all that? Surely none of the gimmie-grants CA has to support.

A stupid and dangerous idea. I will create a permanent underclass for sale to the highest bidder, but that’s probably what Democrats want.

There are over 30,000,000 persons over age 18 in California. I refrain from calling them adults. The current 2020-2021 state budget is $215 billion dollars. 30 million x 12,000 = 360 billion.

Since the “pay out” flat, this would be a massive income transfer scheme. The top income tax rate is already 12.3%. This will absolutely kill the California economy.

...residents over 18-years-old would receive $1,000 per month. As written, the bill would only exempt people who are already getting Medi-Cal, County Medical Services Program, CalFresh, CalWorks or Unemployment Insurance from getting the universal basic income.

Low’s bill would pay for the CalUBI program with a 10 percent value-added tax on goods and services in California.

One California city, Stockton, has already been experimenting with a basic income program where 125 residents were selected at random from low-income neighborhoods to get $500 per month.
IOW, the goal is to impose another tax for the rest of time.

Silli-con Valley taxpayers will figure out who might be asked to pay such nonsense before the next election.

Offer it to every Spanish speaking jail inmate and make them serve out their terms in Cuba. Free health care. Castro can use the money.
