A hotel in Tenerife in Spain's Canary Islands has been locked down after a visiting Italian doctor tested positive for coronavirus.
Hundreds of guests at the H10 Costa Adeje Palace Hotel were initially told to stay in their rooms as medical tests were carried out.
The doctor is reportedly from the Lombardy region, where Italian authorities are battling an outbreak.
Global cases of the virus have passed 80,000, the vast majority in China.
Iran, one of the worst-affected nations outside China, on Tuesday said its deputy health minister, Iraj Harirchi, had tested positive for the virus.
Agence France-Presse quoted a health authority spokeswoman, Veronica Martin, as saying that guests at the four-star hotel in the south-west of the island were being monitored for "health reasons and the degree of supervision will be assessed during the day, but so far, we're not talking about quarantine".
One guest posted on Facebook an image of a note put under the door of their room on Tuesday saying: "We regret to inform you that for health reasons, the hotel has been closed down. Until the sanitary authorities warn, you must remain in your rooms."

Oh noes. Island Petri dish, anyone?
I predict the transatlantic cruises set in the next few months will all be tabled.
Some stop at Azores and other at Canary Islands. Not !
We did that last year. Florida to Holland.
Rumor its happening in Italy at a Mariott. Lots of option buying at the moment on the rumor.
Very shortly, airlines, trains, and cruises will be shut down.
The JHU CSSE had a red dot on the Canary Islands a couple weeks ago, then the dot vanished.Bring Out Your Dead
They still don't have a dot...

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Los Angeles/Korean airline has a flight attendant with the Wuhan Virus.
Thats hundreds of people in Los Angeles exposed.
Story now in Korean. Will post when it hits western media.
Just read about that.
Lessee......how many did this flight attendant infect on the plane, at the (LAX) airport, flight home, etc?? Not to mention all of the stops he made, in between/since. :(
I wonder when air travel will be stopped?
It is way too easy for someone that is infected and not be showing any symptoms to get on a plane and travel thousands of miles only to begin a new round of infections.
My guess is when the death toll get too large to hide and it is basically too late.
AIDS was spread globally by one dude that was also a flight attendant.
The incubation period of the Wuhan Virus is up to three weeks now, though 95% of cases manifest within 14 days.
Thats a couple weeks and thousands of people exposed. Not good!
Hotels these days have sealed windows. Probably a good idea to’break some glass’ of trapped there.
Air travel. Cruises. Buses. Sporting events. Theme parks. Hotels. Colleges. Going to be disruptions hitting those areas soon.
“Hotels these days have sealed windows.”
All non-balcony cabins on cruise ships have sealed air and is virtually a coronavirus sentence if you are quarantined in such a cabin.
At a minimum prohibit all ships sailing from putting anyone in inside cabins or air-restricted cabins. Only allow them to sail with access to fresh air in the event a breakout occurs.
But the various Islamic pilgrimages must go on. Their Big Show is in July this year.
My guess is when the death toll get too large to hide and it is basically too late.
That is a solid bet.
I could stare at that for hours....
“I wonder when air travel will be stopped?”
Stopped for me about 19 years ago.
