Girl, 11, brings AR-15 to Idaho hearing on gun legislation
AP ^ | 02 25 2020 | KEITH RIDLER

An 11-year-old girl toting a loaded AR-15 assault weapon appeared Monday at a legislative hearing with her grandfather, who is supporting a proposal that would allow visitors to Idaho who can legally possess firearms to carry a concealed handgun within city limits.

Charles Nielsen addressed the committee that voted to send the legislation to the full House as Bailey Nielsen stood at his side with the weapon slung over her right shoulder, but did not say anything.

“Bailey is carrying a loaded AR-15,” Charles Nielsen told lawmakers. “People live in fear, terrified of that which they do not understand. She’s been shooting since she was 5 years old. She got her first deer with this weapon at 9. She carries it responsibly. She knows how not to put her finger on the trigger. We live in fear in a society that is fed fear on a daily basis.”

He said Bailey was an example of someone who could responsibly handle a gun, and lawmakers should extend that to non-residents.

“When they come to Idaho, they should be able to carry concealed, because they carry responsibly,” he said. “They’re law-abiding citizens. It’s the criminal we have to worry about.”

There was no notable reaction among lawmakers to the girl carrying the AR-15, and none asked Charlie Nielsen any questions after he testified. Guns are not an uncommon sight in the Statehouse when gun legislation is being debated, particularly handguns on belt holsters. Long rifles such as AR-15s also appear occasionally.

Leighton Vander Esch of the Dallas Cowboys has been shooting since he was about 5, and is a darn good shot.

The most feared soldiers in the US military (including the Civil War) have been the Southerners and Appalachian boys that learned how to shoot across valleys and into trees.

Now we create a nation of boys that haven't heard a loud sound unless their XBox is turned up too loud.

Annie, born Phoebe Ann (Annie) Mosey, began trapping before the age of seven, and shooting and hunting by age eight, to support her siblings and her widowed mother.

There are many excellent Americans in my chosen state.

I am thrilled that their actions made AP print his words.

Some of her records were never beaten until last year. She was faithful to her husband throughout her entire married life. She is one of my favorite persons in American history. Anne was cute, too.

IMHO, one of the cases where the subject was cuter than the actor portraying. No offence to The Merm. Well, maybe a little.

“An 11-year-old girl toting a loaded AR-15 assault weapon....”

The opening sentence tells me all that I need to know about the individual who wrote this article.

This is precisely why I believe that we have come to the point in time where those people who desire to exercise their FIRST Amendment rights should be subjected to the same infringements that are placed on our SECOND Amendment rights.

After all, there is no mention of “SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED” included in the FIRST Amendment.

My son and daughter both have been shooting since they were under 10 years old. They’re both expert marksmen now, in their mid 20s.

I coached little league baseball for years, and as a firearms instructor, have taken many of the kids and their parents as well to the range.

Every one of us out here that shoots should be doing this. We need a Nation of Riflemen once more, for what’s coming.

And the only way to get that is by stepping up and passing on what you know.

I had a guy that worked for me here in Nevada that transferred from TN. He was a big deer hunter in TN. He couldn’t hit a barn door at 50 yards if you spotted him 25. The average deer shot(for a trophy buck) is 150 yards and often 200+ here. We sent him for more range time at 200 yards eventually he got good at it.

Hi.

“She got her first deer with this weapon (AR-15) at 9.”

In the fwiw department, many states don’t allow 5.56mm for deer.

Unless it was chambered for 7.62.

5.56mm
