They need this narrative to shore up the old narrative, because if he colluded with Russia in 2016, it begs the questions: what did Russia get out of all that colluding? The US stationed troops in both Iceland and Greenland to protect them from German occupation. If we were interested in taking sovereignty over these two countries we easily could have done it then.
