Jonathan Pollard: A Valuable Pawn?
American Thinker ^ | February 23, 2020 | Kenneth H. Ryesky

Posted on 02/23/2020 6:14:46 AM PST by Kaslin

The word on the street (and in the tabloid ink) is that Jonathan Pollard may soon receive a pardon from President Donald Trump, and then relocate to Israel. That story has made the rounds before, but perhaps this time things may end differently.

Pollard received a disproportionate sentence for his espionage activity under circumstances that suggested highly questionable behavior on the part of the United States government and the Israeli government as well.

I am not a great fan of Jonathan Pollard; my primary reason for wanting to see his current movement restrictions removed is that his arrival in Israel as a free man would be a definitive slap in the face to those individuals, living and dead, who asserted their anti-Israel and anti-Semitic agendas to prosecute and incarcerate him.

The reasons for my lack of enthusiasm regarding Pollard are no doubt colored by the fact that following his arrest, I and other Jewish people employed by the U.S. Department of Defense felt a heightened degree of scrutiny regarding our security clearances; the subsequent emergence in the news of David Tenenbaum's experiences in that regard gave us strong reason to at least suspect that our perceptions were not unfounded, notwithstanding some lingering questions regarding the Tenenbaum affair.

Personal experiences aside, Pollard himself has given me little reason to join his fan club. His case file shows that he often disregarded the good advice of his handlers, and was known to be given to fantasies and delusions of being a Mossad super spymaster.

Heaven forbid.

This might be one of the only things that would ever turn me against Trump.

I’m sorry Kaslin, but as a long time freeper and casual observer, it seems from the crumbs you constantly drop that YOU TOO fancy yourself as some kind of “State department” or “Mossad wannabe” Superstar. We ALL have credentials here in Free Republic, and we ALL can write, so stop being so pompous and self inportant.

There’s no reason to pardon this guy unless he has valuable information to offer especially against the deep state

JP may bear a little responsibility for his own incarceration, too, don't you think?

“”and we ALL can write, so stop being so pompous and self inportant.””

Kaslin posted an article written by someone else. What IS YOUR PROBLEM?

Most of us start our days here reading what Kaslin has found and posted and we appreciate it.

I never did understand why he was prosecuted. Israel was our ally, not our enemy.

“”Pollard is the only American who has received a life sentence for passing classified information to an ally of the U.S.[2] In defense of his actions, Pollard declared that he committed espionage only because “the American intelligence establishment collectively endangered Israel’s security by withholding crucial information”.[3””

Pollard should have been publicly executed for treason following his conviction.

Israel was not — and never has been — our “ally.”

Anyone who worked in U.S. intelligence during the Cold War will tell you that they were no different than the Soviet Union when it came to the threat they presented to U.S. military secrets.

Check out the link I posted in #8. Any time you see Joe DiGenova and Rep. Eliot Engel (D-Israel) on different sides of an issue, you damn well know which one is the anti-American traitor.

”Pollard is the only American who has received a life sentence for passing classified information to an ally of the U.S"

From the same Wikipedia article:

"Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) investigator Ronald Olive has alleged that Pollard passed classified information to South Africa,[34] and attempted, through a third party, to sell classified information to Pakistan on multiple occasions.[14] Pollard also stole classified documents related to China on behalf of his wife, who used the information to advance her personal business-interests. She kept these secret materials around the house, where investigating authorities discovered them when Pollard's espionage activity came to light"

wow. really? Have you ever had a security clearance? Do you care about oaths? Do you understand that leaked intelligence doesn’t necessarily stay with the ally and sometimes makes it way to an adversary... like CHINA? Pollard is a traitor. Frankly, Israel should be very happy that we didn’t act harsher towards them for turning an American. There should be “mea culpas’ instead “free Pollard”. All that said, he’s been in prison for a long time. No pardon, but perhaps a release under some conditions.

Welcome to the very real world of anti semitism by association. I often will read a poet just cause you shared it, a distinction no one else shares.

Hillery and Bill, sellers of military secrets are Billionares, Chelsea Manning is a cultural hero with a presidential pardon but manning serves life for being a whistleblower to the Jews.

Quite a double standard.
