Radical hydrogen-boron reactor leapfrogs current nuclear fusion tech
New Atlas ^ | February 21, 2020 | Loz Blain

"We are sidestepping all of the scientific challenges that have held fusion energy back for more than half a century," says the director of an Australian company that claims its hydrogen-boron fusion technology is already working a billion times better than expected.

“It’s like the bumble-bee problem. According to classical aerodynamics it can’t fly. But then it was discovered that it operates in a different regime and can fly. But then you discover that you can’t scale up a bumble-bee to an airplane. “

I am not sure what you mean by ‘different regime’?

Perhaps someday that assertion will be true, when science figures out how to tap the zero point energy field all around and in us.

Insect wings create a leading edge trailing vortex of air which provides for a low pressure zone. The vortex is self confining. This approach takes advantage of turbulent fluid flow at a scale in which laminar flow is less effective.

Aircraft wings generate part of their lift from pressure differentials generated by velocity changes of smooth fluid flow over the wings surface. The scale allows pressure zones to form which persist. These wings strive to avoid initiating a turbulent flow, which tends to detach the laminar air flow over their surface (stall.)

Thanks. Very helpful.

Maybe I should have paid attention during high school physics?

Isn’t it always the way, just when we find the answer to the energy problem, a virus comes along and wipes us out.

"Doesn’t that seam impossible?"

Why should it?? Any fueled engine "reaps far more energy...than you put in". See your car. You input a tiny amount of energy from your car's battery to get things going, and then "reap" hundreds of miles of travel energy from the fuel. This is no different. It is all about getting (and keeping) things going.

I have a feeling this is going to wipe out a lot of Chinese North Koreans and possibly Iranians ( Iran has a real problem which has been undisclosed).

Australians are simply too stubborn to allow a virus to wipe them out! Soon Oz will not allow any Chinese traffic in , if it has not already.

Backwards. Pressure differentials CAUSE the velocity changes.

I haven’t finished watching - but what strikes me is how much we as a nation have lost since the early 1960s, when space exploration began in earnest, only to have be killed by failure of political will, substituting a tiny capsule with little utility beyond landing and returning from the Moon, then building a poorly designed low orbital shuttle, sacrificing that on the alter of environmental concerns and then killing it entirely. Wasting 56 years on not much compared to the grand vision of “Mars by 1965, Saturn by 1970” with manned ships. Or the still grander vision of building interstellar vessels. Dead ... all gone.

Now we have the agony of watching the Chinese, and perhaps the Russians, take all of those dreams while we sit complacently watching TV and playing with toys, deliberately forgetting who we were and all the history that made us once great (which BTW is the actual impetus for DJT’s MAGA).

Jumping as Kwast says to using the radiant energy of the universe itself - wanna bet it is already utilized? That getting anyone to any point on the earth does not involve rockets? That everything seen on Star Trek already exists? That taking ET home is been there done that proposition?

Kwast knows way more than he lets on but, likely cannot say. Men like him just might be able to stir a political will (barring a DJT loss in 2020) and begin the catch up - the tools the math the concepts and the will all just need to come together. Perhaps, the Space Force, in a few years, can begin the path we saw possible 56 years ago.

Lots of people have produced fusion reactions. The trick is, producing SUSTAINED fusion, which reliably and sustainably releases more energy than is consumed from triggering the reaction.

Well, it's not so much the sustained part as it is the net energy part. Currently, pretty much all fusion tech requires more energy as input than it gives as an output.

Yeah, a billion times better, somehow that isn't surprising. /s

They have already solved it, they will soon control warheads in Europe from Turkey to GB. NATO will be theirs, and all of its plans and arms.

SST is a prime example of scaling up.
