Youve got Oregonians seeking to cascade into Idaho, Virginians who identify as West Virginians, Illinoians fighting to escape Chicago, Californians dreaming of starting a 51st state, and New Yorkers who think three states are better than one.
Separation fever is sweeping the nation as quixotic but tenacious bands of frustrated rural dwellers, suburbanites and conservatives seek to break free from states with legislatures increasingly controlled by liberal big cities and metropolitan strongholds.
Oregon is controlled by the northwest portion of the state, Portland to Eugene. Thats urban land, and their decisions are not really representing rural Oregon, said Mike McCarter, president of Move Oregons Border for a Greater Idaho. They have their agenda and theyre moving forward with it, and theyre not listening to us.
In Virginia, the newly elected Democratic majoritys progressive legislation on issues such as gun rights has spurred Vexit, or Virginia exit, a campaign to merge right-tilting rural counties into neighboring West Virginia that organizers say has the potential to catch fire nationwide.
To be honest, if this works youve got a lot of red areas in this country that are totally dominated by a blue metropolis, said Vexit2020 leader Rick Boyer, a former member of the Campbell County Board of Supervisors. If it works in Virginia, theres no reason it cant reshape the political map.

They mean escape Commie RED rule.
If the state legislatures (or the people acting as their own legislatures) go along with this, bare majorities in the Congress can make this happen.
I like it! California could become just a narrow strip of land from SF to LA.
If they abandon the electoral college, I expect to see whole states declaring independence.

Ft. Sumter 2.0???
I guess I dont understand what is the big fear with some necessary re-configuring of some state boundaries?
Before most of these places became states they were just territories that had their boundaries shifted all over the place, and it didn’t kill anyone.
This is a terrific example of the reasons for succession! https://wham1180.iheart.com/content/2020-02-21-lonsberry-nyc-we-dont-want-your-crap/
Who can we give Memphis to?
Running isn’t the answer. It’ll buy you some time, sure. See Texas. They’ll just infiltrate and take over. Fighting is the answer.
Pretty sure if you eject the Portland megaplex to Washington State, you cure most of the issue there. Then adopt most of the northern counties of California.
The relationship between Virginia and West (by Gawd) Virginia
has always been a little strained.
Tennessee could use a few counties NE Bristol
I don’t know what’s going to happen but we cannot peacefully coexist with people who threaten our freedom, safety, prosperity and our American way of life.
Something’s got to give.
Until the "Big One" flushes it into the Pacific Ocean.
Keep it the hell out of Desoto county
For a while, Republicans in Red States were pondering laws for an electoral college system within the states. That was what was apparently undone by the supreme court case mentioned in this article?
My solution for Red States right now, in order to prevent incoming former blue state residents from ruining things, is to enact a limiting constitution at every level of gov’t. Just like Fed Gov is supposed to be limited, pass constitutions that limit what the State can do, the county can do, the city can do. Then the lefties can’t vote in ridiculous programs like those that destroyed their previous states.

The New Madrid fault may donate it to Arkansas
If people are free to identify as animal, vegetable, or mineral, they should be free to change the state boundaries to reflect where they want to live.
I’ve always thought that Eastern OR & WA should merge with Idaho. Southern OR should merge with northern CA for the new state of Jefferson. Then the rest of OR (NW corridor) can merge with WA. We’d have one more red state & a stronger red in Idaho which is unfortunately getting hammered by idiots who’ve destroyed their previous states & apparently intend to do the same damage here.
