Most of the Americans monitored at the University of Nebraska Medical Center for coronavirus after evacuating a cruise ship in Japan tested positive for the virus, the Omaha World-Herald reports.
UMNC said in a statement Thursday that the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention verified the Nebraska Public Health Lab results showing that 11 of the 13 patients have the novel coronavirus. The other two evacuees who were taken to the Omaha hospital tested negative, the statement said.

PING!
so the experiment worked but its not a bioweapon at all
The headline makes it sound worse than it really is.
It’s not ‘most of the Americans who got evacuated’, it’s ‘most of the 14 Americans that had already tested positive or that they already strongly suspected had the virus’.
So there’s no real news here. Just confirmation of what was already thought.
Did anyone expect anything different. All of the air was cycled through a central heating and cooling system.
It is not every day that you see “Omaha” and “Cruise Ship” in the same headline.
11 infected on a cruise ship and we’re supposed to panic. GTFOH.
EXACTLYALL should read your post!!

i thought i read 100% fresh air in an article a few days ago... (??)
Why would anyone want to go on a cruise after this whole fiasco!!!!!
Yeah but I’ll bet the food was better on the ship.

Exactly. At least there are some FReepers who are capable of processing information, rather than getting emotional based on the headline.
HOW CHEAP is Cruising going to get!?
News or not, problem is >= 11 people have Coronavirus ... in the USA.
At the observed R0 & terminal rates, we’re in for a big problem if just 1 of them “gets out”.
At some point they just have to stop running cruises. Can only get so cheap for so long before it’s simply hemorrhaging cash.
A cruise ship is the worst place in an epidemic. It is a perfect incubator for infectious diseases. There is no avoiding breathing other peoples’ air and sharing space with them.
An airplane is just as bad. Or worse. You have to stay in the plane until it lands. If you brought along your own air mask, and a box of depends, you might just make it.
In an epidemic, all cruise sailings can be stopped, if their country of registry agrees. But stopping air travel will eventually affect peoples’ ability to earn a living. Governments could mandate some kind of air filtering system to replace the germ-and-virus-sharing system that we have now. But the airlines would yell and scream and it would never happen.
