‘The Call of the Wild’ Review: Arctic Meltdown
A CG pooch is the liveliest part of a production that otherwise goes to the dogs.

They got it all wrong in “The Call of the Wild,” a woefully inept retelling, or re-re-retelling, of the Jack London story about a comfortably domesticated California dog named Buck finding his true feral self in the Yukon during the Gold Rush. This latest iteration of Buck is so lifelike, thanks to the wonders of computer animation, and the people around him are such lifeless caricatures, that the studio should have given the pooch the gift of speech and kept the humans mercifully mute.

[snip]

Buck is so precocious, such a relentlessly clever construction, that he leaves nothing to our imagination. He’s the soul-free star of a movie that’s dead in the icy water.

I thought that runway was a golf course. Maybe I am mistaken. Anyways, anything to get rid of gophers.

On a note very similar to White Fang and Call Of The Wild, go see Togo. https://www.disneyplus.com/movies/togo/7jEeXqS5aEVr
Tale of an unwanted sled dog proving himself to his master via tremendous tenacity & courage.

“Interesting business model to piss off half the public.”

First we re-elect president Trump.

Then, he and we will make “this piss off half the public (potential customers)” a millstone around the necks of the CEO’s and boards, who made it their business model.

I won’t pay to see Harrison Ford.

We have people without values lecturing to us about values. Enough of the hypocrisy. —goldstategop

Idiot former Celebrities Like Harrison Ford, and why they do bs like this:

To Sail Beyond the Sunset Quotes (showing 1-1 of 1)

“But there seems to have been an actual decline in rational thinking. The United States has become a place where entertainers and professional athletes were mistaken for people of importance. They were idolized and treated as leaders; their opinions were sought on everything and they took themselves just as seriously — after all, if an entertainer or athlete is paid a million or more a year, he knows he is important … so his opinions of foreign affairs and domestic policies must be important, too, even though he proves himself to be both ignorant and subliterate every time he opens his mouth. (Most of his fans were just as ignorant and unlettered; the disease was spreading.)”

Robert A. Heinlein, To Sail Beyond the Sunset

I agree with your comment, I remember reading The Godfather and then going to the movie when it first came out

Different, close but different

Any one but Harry in the Call of the Wild

VFX are likely not finished when they hit the trailers. It may not look good like in the trailer, or it may look a lot better after some color tweaking and compositing.

Fiction writing is about creating worlds.

Screen Writing is about creating illusions.

It is a story which can serve both ends. Jurassic Park comes to mind.

P.S. Just go back and read the original book by Jack London.

I love that book! It would make such a good movie if they'd follow the story and have a good narrator. Alas, I don't think it will ever happen.

Once I heard the dog was CGI generated that was enough for me.

Need to get one of those for my house, I'll save a ton on food and vet bills.

I like both the stories but prefer Call of the Wild. I will have to look into the animated White Fang. Did they change the drunken Indian who sold him for firewater into a MAGA hat wearing white dude?

I was excited about Call of the Wild--one of my favorite books--until I read Harrison Ford's stupid comments. Then I lost all interest in seeing it.

Whilst an excellent movie, it’s still not as good as the book. And don’t get me started on the sequel.
