‘The Call of the Wild’ Review: Arctic Meltdown
A CG pooch is the liveliest part of a production that otherwise goes to the dogs.

They got it all wrong in “The Call of the Wild,” a woefully inept retelling, or re-re-retelling, of the Jack London story about a comfortably domesticated California dog named Buck finding his true feral self in the Yukon during the Gold Rush. This latest iteration of Buck is so lifelike, thanks to the wonders of computer animation, and the people around him are such lifeless caricatures, that the studio should have given the pooch the gift of speech and kept the humans mercifully mute.

[snip]

Buck is so precocious, such a relentlessly clever construction, that he leaves nothing to our imagination. He’s the soul-free star of a movie that’s dead in the icy water.

Sounds like Harrison Ford has been too busy preaching the evils of the Trump administration and praising Greta Thundberg to practice his lines.

Saw this with the wifey last night. Better than average feel good movie. Kinda nostalgic for me as it kindled memories of reading it as kid. Overall pleased with the movie and to have paid matinee price.

The Trump Curse strikes again!

P.S. Just go back and read the original book by Jack London.

Hey! If the Nazis BURNED it, it’s GOT to have some merit to it, Right? ;) (It was a ‘banned book’ at one point in History.)

Once I heard the dog was CGI generated that was enough for me.

Still think someone should do "White Fang". Much better story in my opinion.

Ends with the hero dog being loved and cherished by humans the way all hero dogs should rather then the dog going into the wild where he will end up as snackiees for some wolf pack.

CGI dogs and stunts just ruin things for me. All that effort, and it’s basically a cartoon.

LOL! I for one have never understood Harrison Ford’s appeal. Wooden is the word that comes to mind....

I included enough in the excerpt to save Freepers money that might be wasted on a dog of a movie, starring a yellow dog and a Scottish Shepherd.

Enjoy!

Even in the trailer, on a low-res screen, the CGI is intrusively obvious. I can only imagine how bad it looks on the big screen.

I won’t pay to see Harrison Ford. I can reread the book or watch the older versions of the film.

Netflix did an animated White Fang a couple years ago. https://www.netflix.com/title/80245121
Pretty good.

That version tells a different story than the book, the story of characters Jack Thornton and Claire. Buck gets a minor role so they can use the title.

That's not a criticism. The movie should be judged on its own merits.

I would pay to see him land on the wrong runway again...so long as no lives are endangered. Other than that, I’ll pass.

Might have gone to see it.
But since the Meat Puppet had to open his yap they can kiss my ass.

Interesting business model to piss off half the public.
