At least he self quarantined. But who was on the plane, and did he drive himself home?

Somehow I get the feeling every county has at least one of these.

Historians will look back at all this and wonder why there was no airtight quarantine from day one: No planes from China and no admittance to anyone who has been to China.

But I guess that would have offended someone somewhere. So never mind.

Obviously a 14 day quarantine is not sufficient. Oh well, the cat is already out of the bag.

Feb 2 - 20th?
Wonder how many are infected, in 18/19 days and nights, and how fast it’ll multiply.
Fast.

Glad I live in Wyoming!

I think cities and towns that have a Chinese population, even university towns, will soon identify more people being quarantined and watched for the virus.

Between Dec 15-Jan 15 thousands of people travelled from the Wusan area to multiple points in the US. Face it. The virus is here and widespread. If hospitals were equipped with the proper diagnostic kits, many more cases would be diagnosed. Suspect many sick people are being diagnosed as “flu” and few if any have had comprehensive autopsies or a post mortem diagnosis. Also it does a town or city no economic good to announce that there are people ill with this coronavirus. The local economy will collapse. Look what’s happening to Chinatown in New York City.

Article said he developed mild symptoms “during the quarantine period.

So 14 days was sufficient.

If this had started in Finland, there probably would have been. But it was China. The combination of huge vested money interests worldwide coupled with PC "diversity is always good" sentiment left things wide open for far too long and frankly it's still pretty open. Seven airports in the USA where people coming indirectly from China via a stop in another nation. Crazy.

But I still say that until someone who inst Chinese actually dies from this, I'm not panicking. If I were a Chinese American though, I'd be sweating a little.

So upwards of 60,000 die each year in China by influenza. So far 2200 via coronavirus. I am looking for a reason to be alarmed here.

Sounds like the incubation period is more than 14 days.

He developed symptoms with the 14 day quarantine period. I think they just got the test back.

1) This isn’t just the flu.

2) The flu is seasonal. This is not.

3) Countries (such as China) don’t normally sacrifice or completely lock down entire PROVINCES/states just for influenzas ... nor dress in full PPE gear to treat common influenzas.

4) FORTY additional crematoriums have been brought in to Wuhan, to keep up with the number of dead. That’s not done with the ‘just the flu’, each flu season, in China.

This is a brand new (thus, the novel) disease that has no historical data, and is confounding the medical profession as to how to treat. (Re-infections of those ‘cured’ are now being reported.)

No one knows the true virility nor whether is is/can mutate into something stronger than it already is.

Okay. Heh I am happy my gold portfolio is rising, just worried it is based on a big nothing. But in this case I guess the fear is grounding whole cities, flights and parts of the Chinese economy, and that in itself is good for gold.
