BOSTON — Boston Children’s Hospital wasn't medically negligent in its treatment of a Connecticut teen who spent nearly a year in state custody after doctors suspected her parents of medical child abuse, a jury in Boston concluded Thursday.
The verdict in the medical malpractice lawsuit brought by the family of Justina Pelletier capped a high profile dispute that drew national media attention and sparked a broader debate over parental rights.
“This is unbelievable pain, and, really, no family should ever have to go through this,” said Lou Pelletier, Justina’s father. “We are extremely disappointed with the jury’s decision today. It was really hurtful, I guess, ultimately for Justina. She’s the one that’s really had to live through all this.”

Yearscago, I notice my young son was in pain. I brought him to Newton-Wellesley Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a broken collarbone. They treated me like a criminal until they talked to his mom who said the incident happened when she was with the child.
Then the doctors and nurses laughed, and let me go.
They were TRAINED to look for abuse froM a man, but the idea a woman could be abusive wasn’t on their radar at the time.
These people receive training on what to look for, and confirmation bias makes them see it if it is there or not.
Looks like the hospital’s (mis)conduct still served to foster Justina’s Law...

She had been diagnosed at Tufts Medical Center in Boston with mitochondrial disease, a disorder that affects cellular energy production.
But doctors at Boston Children’s Hospital suspected it was a case of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, and that Pelletier’s psychological needs were being ignored by her parents in favor of unnecessary medical tests and procedures.
When her parents rejected that diagnosis and tried to take her back to Tufts, the allegations of medical child abuse were raised, and the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families took custody of her.

I wouldn’t take a child into Boston for any reason. The people of that city are nuts and have been for a long time.

That’s one of the dumbest comments I’ve read on FR in quite a while. Boston has some of the best hospitals in the world.
The world has a lot of good hospitals.
Florida is in a big argument over ‘child abuse specialists’ taking 10 minutes with a child and having the child taken away for abuse with no real appeal. On top of that, a 6 year old child in FLorida was taken out of school, put in a mental health facility and tranqed, and the parents weren’t notified or given a right of appeal. Why? She threw a tantrum. Now the child is traumatized.
I’m sure it does, very few with the amount of 1st class hospitals and medical schools as Boston though, very few.
