President Trump said late Thursday night he is considering nominating Rep. Doug Collins, Georgia Republican, as director of national intelligence.
The president made the disclosure to reporters aboard Air Force One on a flight to Las Vegas, Nevada, a day after he selected U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell to serve as acting DNI.
The DNI oversees the 17 agencies of the U.S. intelligence community. Joseph Maguire has served in an acting role since last year, when Dan Coats resigned.

In the mean time, Trump appoints Richard Grennell as acting ODNI, sending shockwaves across Washington.
So Trump says to McConnell, you're Establishment boys don't like Grennell, so get Collins confirmed, he'll be removed from the GA Senate race, Grennell will be out and I'll endorse Loeffler. Otherwise Grennell or somebody similar will continue at ODNI and I'll endorse Collins for senate.
DJT is trying his best, but McConnell will ultimately give him who is acceptable to the Swamp.
The President picked up a few things negotiating multimillion and billion dollar deals with characters from every part of the globe with varying degrees of savoriness.
Then combine all of that with his own innate good instincts and we end up with a lot of winning.
We would do well to quit expecting 100% perfection when it comes to personnel. In consideration of the vipers nest the President walked into, an 80% accuracy rate would be astounding.
The President knows how to play this game, but this is a mere prelude to the purging of obstructionist Obama operatives within the intelligence services. The whole Obama dirty tricks department needs to be rolled up and put into the trash can of history. Obama himself needs to picnic in Fort Marcy Park, near where Berne Sanders operatives can accidentally encounter him.
By law the Director of National Intelligence should have an intelligence background. Collins has never worked for any intelligence agency, did not work in intelligence in the military, and never served on an intelligence committee in the House. If he’s appointed as acting DNI then he’s out in a year. If he’s nominated as DNI then he won’t be confirmed.
Also, even if he is confirmed, all positions expire with the administration next January.
So McConnell can take a gamble, get Collins confirmed, get his preferred senator elected, then deal with the issue.
There’s lots of angles to this.
Except that Collins will never be confirmed. I don't think Trump wants to see another nominee go down in flames in a Republican Senate right before the election.
Collins has already said he’s not interested.
Collins is nuts if he goes for this. We need him in the Senate. Loeffler is bad news and already tainted by her appointment to the Senate Agricultural Committee which oversees her husband’s business.
Trump should have offered loeffler ambassador to somewhere cushy like France. He can stick his thumb in Mitchs eye by just appointing a different conservative to DNI every Six months.
So just find someone they like even less than Grinnell for the next recess appointment.
Kemp probably just got his re-election campaign financed by team McConnell and his PACs. Loeffler is a cheap labor globalist RINO who needs to be defeated.(No more Buckley rule!) Hopefully Collins will turn this down and continue his senate run. defeating the Dems who wear republican jerseys is almost as important as defeating dems!
