New Prosecutor In Roger Stone Case Also Authored DOJ Letter Not To Prosecute McCabe

A top Department of Justice prosecutor who authored the letter informing former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s legal team that it would not file criminal charges against McCabe for lying to federal investigators, was the latest prosecutor added to DOJ’s prosecution against Roger Stone.

J.P. Cooney, the head of Fraud & Public Corruption, became part of the new prosecution team against Stone after the former prosecutors resigned in protest.

Cooney, head of the DOJ’s Fraud and Public Corruption, and John Crabb, who also handles public corruption cases for the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington, D.C., replaced the previous prosecution team last week after they resigned in protest against Attorney General William Barr’s decision to withdraw the recommendation by prosecutors to sentence Stone to seven to nine years in prison. At the hearing on Thursday, U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson sentenced Stone to 40 months, far less than the prosecution recommended.

Cooney was charged with supervising the investigation into McCabe and wrote in a letter to McCabe’s attorney’s that “we write to inform you that after careful consideration, the government has decided not to pursue criminal charges against your client, Andrew G. McCabe, arising from the referral by the Office of the Inspector General to our Office of conduct describes in the OIG’s April 13, 2018, report entitled ‘A Report of Investigation of Certain Allegations Relating to Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.”

It feels like playing chess as the white player, but both sets of pieces on the board are black.

Well, except for one kick-ass king, who tweets like mad!

Stone needs...new prosecutors (Dem oriented, it law oriented).

We don't expect prosecutors to do everything they can to convict the accused? Would we expect (or want) them to take it easy on Stone if they were Republicans?

I can see concerns about the defense attorneys but prosecutors?

You’re not going to like this answer, because I didn’t. The reason is... DC juries are hopelessly anti-Republican and pro-Democrat.

As I understand it prosecutors are not permitted by DoJ rules to bring cases that they have no possibility of winning. The old joke about a good prosecutor being able to get a Grand Jury to “indict a ham sandwich”? Well, that’s DC Juries — when it comes to Republicans. High-level Democrats carry a lot of political armor and are much harder to convict.

It would probably be a useful reform to bring cases outside the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia. That’s the reform that needs to happen.

ALL the prosecutors were Obama Hacks! And the new prosecutor is a Dem hack, too! So, 4 quit, a new one is assigned and ‘meet the new one, just like the old ones’. I would like an HONEST prosecutor, not another Obama Dem hack. That is all. And certainly a new judge......Stone was under a gag order the whole time and could not speak out in defense of himself.

I would like to know if ANY attorneys at the DOJ are fair and unbiased. I doubt it. In 8 years, it would appear that Obama replaced anyone who wasn’t a Leftist with hard core Dems at the DOJ. Stone is convicted but McCabe is let off? Just another example of the Leftist bias at the DOJ.

So a corrupt attorney is the head of the Fraud and Corruption division of DoJ?

How apropos.

It’s worse than that. McCabe’s rabidly partisan attorney, Bromwich, was the Obama admin Intelligence Community IG before he represented Ballsy Ford and McCabe. Talk about the fox guarding the hen house!

Fine. Charge the FIB lawyer caught red handed forging FISA documents in DC court. Either he is convicted or there is ridiculous jury nullification. Either way Trump wins. Yet DOJ does nothing. Now why would DOJ be avoiding a slam dunk case? Provably, they have no will to prosecute criminal Democrats to the benefit of Donald J. Trump.
