Bloomberg camp warns Sanders 'impossible to stop,' unless Biden, Klobuchar, Buttigieg bow out

Michael Bloomberg's Democratic presidential campaign sounded the alarm on a potential delegate sweep by Bernie Sanders unless moderate rivals bow out of the race.

An internal memo between top Bloomberg aides dated Feb. 17 warned that Sanders, a Vermont senator and self-avowed democratic socialist, is poised to leave the Super Tuesday primary contests on March 3 with a 400-delegate lead over Bloomberg that would be almost "all but impossible" to overcome. Remaining delegates would be divided among former Vice President Joe Biden, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar and former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

"If Biden, Buttigieg and Klobuchar remain in the race despite having no path to appreciably collecting super delegates on Super Tuesday (and beyond), they will propel Sanders to a seemingly insurmountable delegate lead by siphoning votes away from [Bloomberg]," the memo said. Axios first obtained a copy of the memo.

Bloomberg's top strategist Kevin Sheekey stressed the need for the centrist Democrats to coalesce to prevent a possible Sanders victory.

"The fact is if the state of this race remains status quo - with Biden, Pete and Amy in the race on Super Tuesday - Bernie is likely to open up a delegate lead that seems nearly impossible to overcome," Sheekey told Axios.

The sentiment inside the Bloomberg camp was echoed by David Plouffe, Barack Obama's 2008 campaign manager.

Well, now, Bloomie, you’ll just have to open up that checkbook of yours. I’m sure all three of them have their price. For that matter, Bernie probably has one too, so why not just clear the lane completely? Between one and three billion should easily get the job done. NDA’s required, of course, as always.

When the Democrats decide running a Republican might be the only way to beat a Republican.

2 old white guys battling it out in the party of diversity and inclusion. Hilarious!

Actually, aren't both of them Jewish? So basically, he's trying to clear the field so that the billionaire white Jew can battle it out with the communist white Jew. Fascinating how that works out.

I think Trump could end up with 40% of the Black vote in this election.

I imagine Bloomberg has a ton of security given his money, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see a Bernie supporter attempt to physically attack him.

Actually, I believe that Bloomberg is both correct and incredibly wrong at the same time.

First, if all the others bow out but Bloomberg and Sanders the question is who will the followers of Mayor Pete, Biden and the Indian Princess support. Well, it could be argued that biden and Mayor Pete supporters will mostly go to Bloomberg. I can't see miss against the rich supporters going to Bloomberg. They would probably go to Bernie.

So if the above happens, will Bloomberg has an over 50 percent support of Democrats? Nope, he and Bernie will need the help of a brokered convention to win the nomination. Bloomberg can probably buy the Super Delegates with promises of status quo and campaign contributions to them.

If that happens what will happen to the Sanders supporters? Will they say, hey Bloomberg won the nomination fair and square and we will vote for him in the general election? Nope they will go all third party and destroy Bloomberg’s chance of beating Trump.

So what happens if the other second tier candidates don't quite the field? Well then the brokered convention will be even more contested. Still the super delegates will want Bloomberg over Sanders. At that point the Sanders supporters along with some of the other candidate supporters will be angry enough at Bloomberg to not vote for him. Again, Trump will win.

It is going to be really interesting to watch. The only hope that the Democrats have is to unite behind Sanders. that is a real long shot, but I think that is their best chance to beat Trump.

I think Trump will win a landslide victory.

[At least the elites are out in the open now.]

I was thinking Biden/Hillary as the DEMon Convention as a surprise.

Now I’m thinking it will be Bloomberg/Hillary as the surprise.

Bloomberg will now probably try to buy off Socialist Bernie behind the scenes.
